They won't keep all that well. They have a lot of butter and may squash or melt on the trip, or dry up a bit which is just as bad. Better to take home a recipe and some Canadian chocolate(baker's semi-sweet chocolate, but semi-sweet chocolate chips are okay) if you can't get that at home--the poster who said Hershey's doesn't work is right-- to make them with. And use butter, NOT margarine. They're very simple to make, no actual cooking to speak of, and homemade is usually best. The ones you buy in packages at the grocery store are usually too sweet, somehow, so find some at a small bakery to see what they're supposed to be like. You don't have to go to Nanaimo to get them, just about any bakery or cafe in BC will have them. They may even have them on your cruise ship. Also look for a recipe for peanut butter nanaimo bars, the one with cornflakes in it. Those might be even better than the original recipe.

They are, quite honestly, poison.
They look absolutely dellicious, but then you take a bite expecting chocolately goodness and get a big ol' mouthful of coconut.
