Yes it is true that our government trained not only Bin Laden and Saddam. It was the clear reason for the first world trade bombing. I believe it was done by the ayatollah who said he bomb us because we promise him or his country money for his services. He sits in our jail right now and we have never seen the case.
If you remember the Iran- Iraq war we changed sides in that War all the time. One day we were on Iraq's side the next we were on Iran's side. Our government used terrorist groups as spies at one time. We trained them to make not only bombs, but we also trained them in making false Id's to get into other countries. They just perfected what we trained them to do. Further more the reason that Saddam was in power was because our government place him there. In 1982 when he gassed his own people he was our governments foe, and continued to be the governments foe, until he stop doing what we asked of him. Then he became our number one enemy. Bin Laden family has been Friends with our dear presidents family for many Years. The Bin Ladens have be the backers of the Bush's failed businesses for many years.

Not sure how much "training" occured but the US helped a great many "muhajadeen" fighters resist the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 80's. We also help Hussein with his war against Iran.
Political alliances and strategic needs change with time. It is not uncommon to shift alliances as countries change direction.
Only a gifted pyschic could make alliances based on the future. Critics of the US always try to blame us for not being seers.

This is from the National Security Archives. The source link provides an intereseting photo of Hussein and Rumsfeld shaking hands.
The U.S. restored formal relations with Iraq in November 1984, but the U.S. had begun, several years earlier, to provide it with intelligence and military support (in secret and contrary to this country's official neutrality) in accordance with policy directives from President Ronald Reagan. These were prepared pursuant to his March 1982 National Security Study Memorandum (NSSM 4-82) asking for a review of U.S. policy toward the Middle East.

Our government did, in fact, give Saddam Hussein his first taste of WMD's and supported his launching of those weapons into Iran.
And our government did, in fact, help Osama Bin Laden and his jihadi's fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.

~Yes, it is true. Start reading history. These are not the only two tyrants or terrorists we have trained, armed or otherwise aided. Don't forget Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, the Saudis, the Shah, Marcos, Indira Ghandi, Moshe Dayan, Batista, Castro, and on and on. Anti-American sentiment throughout the world is the result of US support of these people when convenient, regardless of their methods, and of the pillage of resources, and not of jealousy of American wealth. When our terrorist, totalitarian, tryannical "allies" decide to no longer be puppets of the White House, Langley, Pentagon and Fortune 500, we then brand them international criminals. Then we are surprised that they retaliate and people like EmmaGee and ddd are appalled that you could even think we supported these folks. Washington counts on that ignorance to find uninformed support to launch illegal and unjustified invasions into sovereign nations like Afghanistan and Iraq.

Well, it is more complicated than that. You see, we helped arm the Taliban many years ago to so that they would be able to fight back against communist and the USSR during the cold war. Incidentally. We have a history of arming rebels and then the rebels get too out of control and then we have to disarm the rebels. It's a bad cycle that we've fallen victim to a couple of times and don't seem to learn our lesson.

I don't know about training them, but the US did supply them with weapons, chemical ones to Saddam, when it was convenient.
