The current system should be replaced with a 5% national sales tax because the only thing that makes sense, is to tax money that is being spent. Although that doesn't sound like much, it would generate additional revenue in the following ways;

(1). Taxes could be collected on the billions of dollars of illegal money that changes hands every day, like drug money, illegal gambling, "Under the table" wages, tips, etc. These billions of illegal dollars will ALWAYS escape ALL attempts to tax earned money, but they can NEVER escape the taxes collected on them when they are spent.

(2). The wealthy wouldn't be able to hide their money or escape paying taxes through loopholes. The more money you spend, the more taxes you pay. Period.

(3). Credit purchases would generate tremendous revenue. Right now, a person can earn $100, but can spend $1000 through the use of credit cards, so tax revenue would be based on the $1000 spent, not the $100 earned.

(4). The current, inefficient tax collection and enforcement system could be scrapped, saving us billions of dollars each year.

Using this approach, the tax process could no longer be custom tailored by politicians and their special interests, and could no longer be manipulated by large corporations and foreign interests.

And, of course the biggest bonus of all; We would all be in a 5% tax bracket.

It would not do any good. No matter what kind of tax system there is congress will always spend more than the tax system provides. It is called buying votes. Perhaps what we really need is a different form of government.

me and i wish i had a solution flat tax or sales tax no one wants to pay taxes so make them voluntery and anything that can not be paid for with taxes is just not done. then our senetors would have to ask us do we want this is what we need have telethons you could go to the all war network fund a tank or air plane of fuel or pilots and see how all the programs do with no money to operate them 30% of americans will finaly have to go to work no more sitting in government offices collecting checks trying to figure out how to get more of the working mans money. every government employee gets at least cost of living or close to it every year. minimum wage is stuck at its current rate for 8 or 9 years

As a fiscally conservative republican I totally agree that we need to revamp the tax codes. Time for those who use the most taxpayer provided services to finally pay their fare share.

If you are Republican you would disagree with this statement, if you are a Democratic, you would agree with the statement.

I agree, but that does not mean anything will result from it.

Rich keep getting richer off of the backs of the poor.

FLAT TAX! Straight 15% and no fuss. Straight across the board. If you make $10,000.00 a year, your tax would be $1,500.00. If you make $100,000,000.00 per year, tax + $15,000,000.00 Works for me. How about you?

That is a nice thought, but even if we did have one the rich would still figure out a way to not pay.
