When you use the type tool in photoshop, it automatically creates it above the selected layer. However, if there are any other layers above it with information on them, you won't see the text.

Also, make sure the text isn't off the screen due to a mistake with the alignment. Type in your text and then choose the pointer tool. Select the background layer, then select the text layer.

At the top choose the alighn layers options (align vertically and horizontally). This option is only seeable if the pointer tool is selected.

Also check to make sure the layer is at 100% opacity and not something low like 10%.

Try adding an effect to the layer (like shadow) to see if you see a drop shadow appear.

Make sure the layer style is set to normal instead of difference, light, multiply, etc.

Worse, comes to worse, email me the psd file and I'll see if the text is on there or not and what may have caused it (chris@wise-designs.net)

I agree with the last answer, change the color of your text or background. Also it could be any number of other little problems so just try again if changing the color doesn't work.

make sure the text layer is in front of the back layer and that the opacity on the text layer is turned all the way to 100%(right under the history menu).

Go to the top menu and click on "Image" then choose "Image Size". Check the resolution, it could be 1 pixel per inch (dpi). This is because some users compressed their image when sending images through websites like QQ etc. To resolve this issue, choose "Select" then "All" and copy the image to clipboard. Thereafter open a new file and set the dpi to at least 72 dpi. Paste the image on the new file, it will be the same size but you can now type text and use line tools etc as b4. Thank you.

Maybe because you set the foreground color to be the same as the background color :-)
