What's the best word processing software to write an engineering thesis?

I need something very stable and reliable, especially with images and equation editors.

Ditto on LaTeX. Essentially you "program" your thesis.

If you are using Windows, get MiKTeX.

LATEX is the best. If you use Windows, try a Windows port of LATEX.
