Technically, it's fine to wear it as long as you don't worship it. In ancient times, when Christians met behind closed doors in various others' homes, they would often put a crude symbol of the fish upon the door to denote whom was meeting inside. Since it was a thinly veiled reference to Christ feeding the multitudes with the fish & loaves, those who were well versed in the gospels knew what it meant but for some time, no one else did.
However, certain 'religions' or, as they should be called, cults, have since prostituted certain religious icons, exactly as the scriptures say we should not, for that, among several other reasons, we can safely surmise that they are no longer true religions that follow the Word of God.
I am almost certain that one of the additional reasons why God brought Jesus up into Heaven is because He would've still been spinning to this day in His grave over all the idolatry & graven images & icons, such as the image of the cross, which have since been worshipped. He, Himself, said (& I paraphrase) that it is not He that should be worshipped, nor even followed, but the message that He brought to us all!

God doesn't want us making images for the purpose of worshiping them. God doesn't prohibit image making all together.
Ex 25:18-19 God commands Moses to make statues of cherubim. Num 21:8, God tells Moses to make a bronze serpant. JJews used many images in their temples. Example Angels, trees, animals and flowers. You can find that in 1st Kings

the cross was a tool for murder, plus the ALMIGHTY gave all humans a spirit cross in our bodies to washoff in flowing river water, to ternsfer from the spirit of error to the spirit of truth.

It's not right to wear the crucifix but I think that it is ok to wear a plain cross.

it is not prohibit to make them, it is prohibit to worship them. i personally wear a cross, yet i wear it to remind me that god so loved me that he died for me. that way i remember every day to be a good person.
