it will not hurt the dog to eat tuna. I feed my dogs the raw fresh diet and they thrive on the stuff.
Canned tuna will not affect your puppy or dog the way it does a cat as the metabolism is different:) Tuna has extra protein that puppies need and some older dogs need.

Tuna is only good as a treat. The red tuna that they sell for cats is worse for cats than the white human tuna. If I recall correctly, it's hard on the kidneys. Also, we need to save tuna for when we really need a sick cat to be tempted into eating, or for when we need to develop a reward system after giving a pill, & that sort of thing. You can give your cat regular food with a tiny amount of tuna on top & then start leaving the tuna out alltogether. Your cat will eventually start eating when he's really hungry. It's important not to let your cat get fat. They can get very sick from it, especially if they get a simple flu & don't eat for a few days. A fat cat can get deadly fatty liver syndrome in that circumstance. Also, a fat cat can get diabetes, requiring insulin shots, can have crippling arthritis, etc. --I'm not saying your cat is fat, but eating 3 times a day & being very food focused might be risky for a little cat. Good luck.

Tuna is more beneficial to a dog's diet and can add improve their coat. Tuna is not harmful to dogs ... it's harmful to cats since they cannot digest the tuna that we eat. The only way for a dog to have problems with tuna is through allergies, much like how people can have problems with specific foods.

I don't know about tuna but our vet had us give our old dog a sardine a day when he got stiff and sore from old age. The vet said it helped to lubricate his joints and as an added benefit it also helped his coat and skin. The vet also said that if you have people with dog allergies in your world it made it easier on them because it made the dog have less dander.

I give my dogs tuna as an occasional treat, but not too much, as it is too salty. Low sodium tuna would be better.
You can use tuna in a dog biscuit recipe... They love it. And it gives them important antioxidents.

From time to time I have given my dog tuna mixed in with his dry kibble. He loves it and has not suffered any adverse effects.
