I would like to use it as a bootable disk. Is that possible? I'm trying to use VMWare.

Could I possibly just use a blank CD/DVD instead?

OK, I just need to ask one more question about VMWare. If you have the boot CD, and have linux or another OS on it, and you install it on a virtual machine, does it physically install on your computer or does it just install on the virtual machine?

What would be the point of a blank ISO, can you be more specific? Okay, yes you can use a blank CD/DVD to boot into an ISO file that is an operating system, like Live Linux. In fact just about all operating systems are ISO files but Windows has to be installed to be used, it can't run live. Vista is provided in the form of an ISO file that must be burned to a DVD and installed.

I'm sure you knew that, that was just for clarification for other people. Now, as far as VMware is concerned, it must be installed and then you can run a guest operating system inside VMware. I'm not sure that is what you are looking for, if I can help more, please post back and I'll check back with you.
