I am now the full time caregiver for a little girl, almost 5 months old. She is a very busy baby. She has to sit in the oddest positions ever, even when taking her juice and milk. She likes to constantly be moving, (been dancing around since I took the job) Any good ideas on how to keep her occupied and quiet? Her mother runs a business from home and has clients coming in and out, therefore the baby has to stay qiuet and content. (yeah, i know..) So, any ideas?

I guess I should have put that her mother tutors from the ages of kindergarden up to college students. Therefore, the baby needs to be as quiet as possible. And I know, for you who said it yet again, It's nearly impossible to keep her quiet, so quit telling me that it's unrealistic, believe me I know. I was just asking for some ideas to mix in...

Since it is unrealistic, and let's face it, impossible, to keep a 5 month old happy all the time, try taking her into the back yard. Kid's have a blast with the simplest stuff, a blade of grass, a bug (make sure that it isn't one that will bite or pinch), a ball, anything. Don't forget the sunblock. Baby einstein videos are great for kids who are a little cranky, they always calmed my son right down. good luck.

A baby that young should not be having juice-give her formula and water and baby rice pablum cereal in her milk or in a bowl with a spoon. The mother is unrealistic-it's unfair to try to keep a baby quiet. The only thing I can suggest is take the baby out in a stroller for a walk in the morning and in the afternoon. The fresh air is good for the baby and will make the baby sleep. Make sure to feed and change the baby half an hour to an hour before you leave on the walk.

Try making a video tape of her mother singing , reading a story or just talking to the baby. Sit with her and snuggle while you watch the movie together. babies like repetition and the more often they see the same movie the more they like it. She could be acting this way because she needs more attention from her mom. ( not Mom's fault ) Maybe seeing her Mom in the video tape and some snuggling will calm her. If you can't make a video try a tape recording of her voice and play that for her. If that dosen't help try hooking up with someone else with a child of similar age or most areas have play centers where you can take the children for free. They get to play with other kids and you have some one to visit with and share ideas with. Hope this helps.

1. NO baby should have jucie at 5 months! That could be making her hyper, she could be obeise at a young age.
2. But to keep her busy, try playing with her on the floor with toys and overhead play-gyms. Walkers and jumpers are great, but not supposed to be used before 6 months. Take walks around the block or some outside play activity [in the shade].

My 3 kids are 14 months apart. The one thing that works is outside time, walks, lots of different toys. Her mother should understand and warn her clients that they may be disrupted because of a very busy baby. They should understand, so don't worry too much.

My 4 month old LOVES the Baby Einstein videos. I will put him in his bouncy seat and put on the video and he will sit there completely quiet and very amazed at the movie. Of course it is only a 30 minute video so invest in a couple. :-)

My niece--who is 10 months and my nephew that is 7 months loves the excisaucer as well.

Good luck!!

If there are any parks in the area, you could take her to a park whenever a client comes over to the house. Just so you don't get tired of taking the little girl to the park, only go to a certain area of the park each time you go, so you don't get tired of the same old thing day in and day out.

It's not realistic for the baby to be kept happy and quiet at all times. Take the baby for walks, to play in the yard, etc. If the baby cries, her MOTHER and her clients should understand. Good luck.

I found the 'exer-saucer' to be indispensable. It has a variety of toys that capture the baby's attention and keeps them busy for hours. There are also little gyms that you lay the baby under. they have toys suspended from them and they kick and reach for them. Then there is the good old fashioned Jolly Jumper. They can sit and jump in these swing and bounce type toys. All of these build babies leg muscle and develop muscle co-ordination.

My daughter is 6 months old. She likes to go for walks in the stroller, read books, practice sitting up, anything that makes a crinkle sound, splashing, new textile sensations, swinging, and grabbing for things.

Hope some of those ideas help.
