My dad tells me I should hold my fork in the left hand and my knofe in my right. It is not comfortable for me like that and I become clumsy. So which is the right way?

I am European. So in Europe you hold it:
Fork: left hand
Knife:right hand

Whichever way is most comfortable. Or just use your fingers.

"Technically" you are suppose to do it based on how the setting is placed. Fork on the left and Knife on the right. I am right handed so when I eat I put the fork in my right hand. Now unless someone is watching you really closely, you can switch the knife and fork so that it is comfortable for you. Just remember the small fork is for the salad and usually if there is a smaller fork, it's for the appetizer. And the spoon(s) is/for the soup/dessert. Hope this helps!

Fork left. Knife right. That's how the table is set because you're supposed to hold them in those hands. If you're clumsy and can't do it right that way, try to stealthily switch them when nobody's looking... Or just practice a lot.

When eating the main course, pace your speed of eating to that of your tablemates so that you don't make them feel uncomfortable. In the United States, we eat "American Style".

Here's how to do it:

Cut your food with the fork in your left hand and the knife in your right hand. Cut only one piece at a time. Then lay your knife down along the top edge of the plate and transfer the fork to your right hand. Bring the food up to your mouth with the tines on the fork facing upward. Don't stab your food or hold the silverware with your fists. And be careful not to gesture or point with your silverware, whether or not it has food on it.

Please pass the butter....

Thank you!

Use the knife in your dominant hand for cutting while holding the fork in your other hand, cut as much as you can eat in one bite, put knife down on edge of plate and switch hands with the fork, This is outdated table practices, people mostly eat like animals now days anyhow, chewing with their mouths open, talking with food in their mouth dribbling out, gnawing off pieces of meat rather than use a knife, so it really doesn't matter much now days.

I hold my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right hand while cutting meat, but since I am right handed I hold the fork in my right hand when I eat.
I don't pay attention to the "proper" way to do it, I do what is comfortable for me.

OPINION: When I am doing something that doesn't require cutting I hold my fork in my right hand and my knife or spoon in the left. If I am eating a steak or something that requires cutting I cut with my right and stab with my left. (Fork-Left Knife-Right)
