Yep. I'd venture to say that American's and English folks have not had a great history together. But now, most American's don't "hate" the English. There are some misunderstandings and general differences. These days European countries in general are much more liberal and secular than America is. That leads some of the more conservative American's to harbor a little resentment.

Plus the refined English nature and wit is a bit too much for the rednecks over here throughout the south.

Besides, lock stock and two smoking barrels was flippin sweet!! :)

I'm not sure where you have gotten that opinion - I would think that the majority of Americans are supportive of England and English people - or at least don't care enough to have an opinion against English people. While it is true that Americans like to make fun of some of the British stereotypes and other things that set us apart from Brits (bad teeth, horrible food, British slang that is different than American slang, British humor that is different than American humor, British royalty), we generally do it in good cheer, knowing that Americans also have a lot of quirks that probably Brits think are funny.

Most Americans absolutely adore the English. It must be the accent. To our ears, it sounds very posh. Every once in a while you may find an American who reads British Blogs or has other contact with English press. Erm. Those Americans may not be as fond of the English due to the general hatred for Americans ( comes as quite a shock ) they have found expressed there. I don't think they do. First off, most Americans don't even have a clue as to the difference of being British, English, or Welch. Second, even though the War of Independence was a nasty bit of revelry, the two have shared a lot of views and fought on the same side several times.

I don't know which Americans you are referring to - do you mean 230 years ago or something? I had a lot of fun learning a British accent to try out for "A Christmas Carol" a few years ago, and I have both British and Scottish ancestors. I have also written a play about one of those Scottish ancestors. Someday it would be fun to go there. In the meantime, I have to be happy watching "Mr. Bean" and "Keeping Up Appearances."

I think the two are pulling apart slowly so that soon there will be a general lack of understanding -- both speaking different language. I think what is happening is normal, anyhow. It kind of started after the war as I recall with good natured digs at each other. And, now it is just getting to be a big misunderstanding.

I'm not an American, so I don't know. But I never before heard that Americans hated Brits. I do think Americans are a little uncomfortable around Brits, because Brits are so "proper" and formal. Also, because they think the Brits did (long ago) crack the Liberty Bell.

I think it's because of the monarchy. The monarchy gives the English people a feeling of pride and dignity, which we Americans take as snobbishness.

I'm sorry if any of my country people have offended you. I find the English people as a very strong and dignified people.
