Everyone tells me she should do it. Is it a bad choice for her. She seems interested. If so how do we start? Any ideas would be great.

Go to www.commercialkids.com . We were looking into it for our baby because they don't charge until you get actual jobs. They do all kinds of modeling for print, commercials and other stuff. You pay like $20 for a list of agencies to send a picture off to. Check it out, they are in FL, I'm not sure where else they are located but, they have a list of agencies that are all over.
Good luck and don't pay upfront for portfolios or anything!!!!!!!!

I think that any 'work' for six-year old children can raise some dangers. Modeling in particular has unsavory reputation for promoting unreasonable and unhealthy body images for adults, that are mimiced in child modeling.

Physically growing children should not be forced into nutritionally restrictive diets.

Mentally young children absorb so much more than adults realize and self-image and acceptence issues can be sparked by the smallest factors.

Having said that, I believe that careful and conscientious parents can make modeling (or acting or competitive atheletics) a positive experience for their children. Make sure that modeling is your CHILD's choice. If she likes the initial exposure, encourage her, but keep a balance. Be sure to protect against 'I'm fat' mind-set. Don't over do it; try to preserve a normal school/home life while getting started.

Good Luck.

I think the only con is if she can't keep it up as an adult. I modeled some when I was young but then as a teenager I only grew to be 5'4. Obviously I could not keep modeling being so short. It was a little disappointing. However, it did give me confidence to venture out and do good things for myself!

I believe there are mostly cons to this one. Having your child model at such a young age will just make her grow up faster than she should. There would be so much pressure on her and she will have the belief that you need to be pretty in life to suceed.

Your the mom so it is really up to you on the decision. Don't let the fact that other people are telling you that she should do it make the decision for you

I think it's a bad idea. A kid's job is to go to school and to play. If your daughter starts working, she will be entering an adult world and missing out on the chance to be a kid.

You are also putting her, and yourself, at risk of coming into contact with con artists, scammers and predators that profit on kids and stage parents' dreams of stardom.

My cousins modeled when they were young. They regret it big time now that they are grown and in their mid-20's. That's a can of worms.

What does she want? If she wants to try, then I would try it. I wouldn't push her though. Stop if she wants. Be sure you are making her desire hers and not yours. I am all for it if that is what the child wants and the parent isn't living out their dream through their child.

Don't make her do it if she doesn't want to. She will end up hating it and you in the long run.
