Its not rude, because money is money... but its still annoying. I used to be a waitress, and I'd happily take $5 in change over $1 bill.

I don't see how leaving change on the table as a tip could be considered rude (unless it was just one penny). A tip is a sign of quality of service. Sometimes all a person has is change. A tip is just a thank you for good service.

What the others posted about servers making $2 an hour is true. $2.13 an hour to be exact.

If change is all you had - then I guess, go ahead, but here is why I never liked change when I was a server:

Change is HEAVY. It weighs on your apron and pulls it down. It falls out when you bend over. Ugh. But ..money is money.

If you go to buy something that costs $15 - do you want to pay with a purse full of change or a ten and a five? :D

No anything is better than nothing!
I often don't leave very much of a tip if it was poor service.
But put yourself in that persons shoes How would you feel having to deal with the public day in and day out.

it is kind of rude. i waitressed for 7 years. no, i never spit in anyones food, but... we do remember every person who tips like that. what would probably happen is that on your next visit to that restaurant, they would seat you with an inexperienced server so that your visit isn't as good as it should be. my advice to all is to get a job as a serverfor just a couple of weeks. when you get your first paycheck and realize that you have to also rely on your tips to survive, you will change your tune on leaving change. the next time that you are in a restaurant, remember this.... servers only make minimum wage (if they're lucky). that is $6.15 an hour. imagine living like that.

As long as it's a good tip (at least 15%), then I would think the server shouldn't care. I'd rather get a roll of quarters ($10) than a $1 bill.

YES! I suggest you don't go back to eat there after leaving change every server remembers the *** that left change...so there for you will get spit in your food.Yes we do that the server secret is out.....& never, never, complain about your food & send it back! It's a given you will also get some sort of spit..floor drooping..just watch the movie Wating..that's what really goes on ...everywhere I have worked.

It really depends on how much you leave as a tip, example if you leave like a dollar or more in change, heck it's money, it all spend the same....

Depends on if the tip is just the change and how much the change actually ends up being.

Hello. - In my opinion, it depends on how much change is left on the table and was the customer service recieved average or above average? Or neither?

Have a great day! :)
