Red fire hydrants are more limited in their performance ability because of their lack of a large diameter hose connection. That is if it is a private fire hydrant.

I think, the yellow one is a flush hydrant. To flush out water lines in case of a main break.
The red one is for filling a fire tanker for putting out fires.

The yellow is for chemical/electrical fires the red is for old fashion flames

They are color coded depending upon how much water flow can be exited from each. In other words flow capacity per minute.
