What places do you recommend seeing? I'll be there on holiday from 11 - 21 July, are there any special events on then?

It depends what you want to do.
The CN Tower is world-famous and definitely worth a visit.
It's great to watch a baseball game at the Rogers Centre (retractable roof stadium). I especially like it when the Jays win!
We have a really great zoo.
Shopping is terrific.
The Toronto Islands are a nice place to spend a day or for something more active you could go to Canada's Wonderland which is an amusement park.
Or, you could go for a walk at the Beach...

It would really help to know your age and the types of activities you enjoy.

It seems your visit dates are between special festivals. Try checking the Toronto website just in case. http://www.toronto.ca/visitors/index.htm

The Toronto International Circus Festival is happening at the Distillery District www.thedistillerydistrict.com from the 14th to the 16th. The Distillery District is a really cool renovated warehouse district, with restaurants, shops, galleries and many venues for outdoor performances.

There's also a restaurant promotion going on called Summerlicious. This is where over 100 top restaurants offer fixed price menus (i.e. 3 course dinner for $25). http://www.toronto.com/summerlicious

toronto.com is probably your best online resource for finding things to do. Locals use this site.

Free outdoor opera down by the harbour in evening. Best way to take your opera if you're like me and would never buy a ticket for that stuff.

CN tower go VERY VERY EARLY or you'll be really bored queueing
