Put a 5 gallon bucket in the bottom of your cooler. Take a jig saw and cut out the base of the water reservoir and let the water pour into the bucket. Have a ladle handy to get yourself a refreshing cup of water.

If it's the kind with the 5 gallon bottles on top, the best thing is to drink it fast, water tends to take on the flavor of its container after a while. You could also run vinegar water through it.

you have to wash out the area from where u think u are getting the plastic taste but dont use soap cause that will cause the water to geta soapy taste. Just use plain water

Try soaking it overnight with your favorite dishwashing detergent mixed with hot water. It works for me.
