I mean, I believe in God but so many people (HERE in particular) seem to be unable to have a thought that doesn't involve Him...two words people: Free will!!! You're supposed to cut the cord and think for yourselves a little, right?

umm... humans are creatures of habit, we all find safety in something routine, fixed and reliable ( the belief that god is always on their side )
that's how they're being brought up, and that's how they will behave, the system is already in place to maintain that tendency
christianity and islam builds up a... ( for lack of better term ) programmed response to their believers, but only via exposure to the system ( bible, church, communityies )
repeated exposure reinforces the tendency of response, which will be triggered if:
1. they find a possible convert
2. they sense an attack on their belief
it so happens that 1 and 2 both happened A LOT in yahoo answers
free will means a duration of time... off that system. which is very scary and uncertain for people who relied on a system too much
too much of ANYTHING is bad, in this case... religion

Thats not a cord... its a lifeline!
The Bible is a guide book for those who believe. It teaches true believers to pray and to seek Gods will in their lives. The Bible states that man is not capable of directing his own steps. It also says that their is a way that seems right to man but it leads to detruction. We do have free will and God does want us to use it. He wants us to freely choose to love him and recognize that all good thing come from him. To see the beauty of his creation and the wonder of what is to come for us.
That doesn't mean that we need to disregard the truths God has provided for us.
Seek yea first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.

Some people who bring god to everything are realy very irritating. They are from most boaring species on the earth. These people do not have any kind of self-respect.They are not able to take the responsibilities or any kind of initiative. Then if some other people get the success they always give the credits to god and if they got failuare then also they blame god for it. JUST IGNORE THEM.

I don't know why, but I do know that it isn't only Christian's that do that. Take for instance the answer given by "mypublicident". He claims he does not believe in GOD, yet he brought him into his answer to you, accusing him of a massacre of Egyptian babies. Doesn't make since that anyone would bring up GOD in a conversation if they don't know him, let alone say they don't believe in him. It would be like me saying "mypublicident" massacred all the American Indians at Wounded Knee, because I don't know him, nor do I believe in him. So you see, it is one of those things that people will bring up to impress themselves. GOD is in everything, but should we invoke his name, with every breath or conversation? Only the individual Christian them self can answer that. Love Ya

Some thoughts about jaipaul's answer: Why would an all loving God want to be feared? How is that a good thing? I find that answer to be very baseless. It's statements like that that drive people away from God. Nobody wants to live in fear. It is not healthy.

Sis He is our everything... there is nothing in our Lives that He doesn't care about and want us to involve him in. It's not about "cutting the cord" I mean sure there is a time when God says ok you know what I want you to do... now go and do it (ei when the israelites entered the promiseland) But that doesnt mean we shouldn't consider him in all things. He is the LORD of our lives... that's not something you do half way.. He's either your Lord or he's not.. you decide...

This is good for in Him we live and move and have our being. God will direct our path. He knows what is ahead so why not always ask Him for guidance. I ask you
If there were a railroad crossing around a curve you did not know about, no warning markings or anything, and a train was coming and the engineer did not blow his horn, would you not want knowledge about that?
This is why we always have to rely on God for everything for in essence life is like that scenario I just gave.
Cast your care upon Him for He careth for you.

I don't know if you really want an answer or if you are making a statement.
Either way, I'll take a crack at it.
The answer is easy. Whatever subject that you talk about the most is what you love the most. Love cannot be faked.
For you, it may be your new hot guy that you just met and want all of your friends to know about. Whatever you focus on the most in your life is your 'god'. For most people, it's about themselves.
You may believe in God but you don't love Christ. Trust me. If you did love Him for being the only person in the world to pay the awful price of dying a horrendous death on a bloody cross that you could live eternally in a Kingdom where you spend the rest of your life knowing no limits to your own potential, you would talk about Him.
If you knew what it meant to have peace in your heart and the Love that floods your soul in spite of the trials of life, you would talk about Him.
If you knew that He has a plan for your life and brags about you in the presence of God the Father and the angels because you gave Him your heart, you would talk about Him.
If you knew that you are never alone despite the fact no one is physically with you, you would talk about Him.
If you knew how much He yearns to restore the world to its original state with no more poverty, wars, sickness and death, you would talk about Him and His coming return.
If you knew that the moment you die that He would have His Angels personally escort you to meet Him face-to-face...
If you knew...
Oh and about that unregenerated "free will" you talk about:
Apart from Christ, Mankind is a slave to its own lustful and sensual desires.
That "free will" has caused the countless wars and the senseless killing of millions of innocents.
That "free will" has caused the divorce rate to skyrocket.
That "free will" has caused AIDS, drug use to spiral out of control.
The very "free will" will eventually enslave all of the world under the totalitarian regime who will require all who buy or sell to have a radio frequency microchip imbedded under their skin and worship of his image three times a day through the introduction of a Universal Idolatrous Religion.
This ruler will tell the world - "You are all gods" but proclaim himself as the God of all gods and demand everyone to worship him.
Either you will take his mark and worship his image or he will have you beheaded. In our lifetime, that will be the extent of "free will."
Before you dismiss what I just said as gibberish, you should do some research on the patents submitted by large, multi-national corporations (IBM's People Tracking Units) to track everything we do on a daily basis - even to having our clothes microchipped (e.g. Benetton) so that they can know how to better market their goods and services without our "free will" to choose whether we want them to invade our privacy.
Wake up, my dear!!!

The one fear that if that deity is not uttered then a blessing will not be brought forth. Heck, I don't know, accept I wonder the same thing. When the indigenious tribes around the world were wiped out, It was God whom the invaders praised for taking them to that land. So does that mean God then blessed them with disease, for their praise, to spread to these people. Probably not, but due to the aforementioned phrase, it makes me wonder.

Just because you have free will doesn't mean that God isn't there. Free will gives you the capacity to either follow God or ignore God.
I don't understand why you would think that someone who CHOOSES to follow God hasn't made a deliberate, thoughtful choice of their own FREE WILL.

Because so many live without God that the world has turned to crap. Those of us who still care are doing more to move God front and center of our lives. The harder people push to take God out of everything, the harder Christians will work to keep him in.
