The Ten Commandments of God
1. I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord's day
4. Honor your father and your mother.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
10. You shall not covet you neighbor's goods.
I'm not seeing a split or anything....
As chaoticblakpearl pointed out, you could be referring to how they categorize these commandments
The Two Great Commandments
that contain the whole law of God are:
You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind, and with your whole strength; you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
To love God, our neighbor, and ourselves, we must keep the commandments of God and of the Church, and perform the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Catholics didn't.
Really it was Moses himself who split the commandments. There were 15 originally, then he DROPPED the third tablet and it broke at his feet. It's true, I saw this in "History of the World Part 1" -- look for it in the documentary section.
That is why there's so much hatred in our present world, we are missing those 5 commandments. Anyone know what they said??

Catholics split the 10 commandments? When did this happen? Did Pope Benedict do something that we weren't told about?
WHAT? Catholics worship Mary? I didn't know that either. I go to church every Sunday, and I've never worshiped Mary. I've asked Mary to pray for us. I've asked many saints to pray for us. But I've never prayed to the saints.
Maybe, I completely misunderstand my own faith. Wow, I'm sure glad all these non-catholics are here to tell me what I'm supposed to be doing.

Are you referring to the way they are numbered differently in the King James version and the "Catholic" bible or the first commandments dealing with God and the rest with behavior towards fellow men?

Therefore GOD exists.
