Contact your local by-law enforcement office, usually located in city hall, and discuss the practice with them. If it contravenes a local ordinance they will probably make a visit and advise the person to cease.

Call the local fire dept. Where we are it is no longer burning season. I don't know where you are so I can only tell you some of the rules in our town. For example, fires are only to be going starting at 12 noon and the fire has to be started by 4pm. Also, they are not allowed to burn within 75 feet of any structure. They have to have a burn permit on them a all times. They are only allowed to burn certain items, check with the department. And also the fire captain will go down if there is a complaint and decide whether it is causing a disturbance with the neighbors. The smoke should NOT be going in your windows. Hope it helps a little, but make sure you check with the fire department.

I don't think it is actually against the law to have controlled fires in your own garden. I would suggest you talk to your neighbours but we all know that some are not the most appoachable! The other thing to do is find out if they are council/housing association tennants and who they rent from. Then write a letter to the landlord (council or association). I think that even if they ate not renting you can still contact the council and complain that it is a nuisance. I know that I find it annoying when my neighbours have bonfires and i have washing on the line but, luckily, i can talk to them and get on really well with them. Anyway, good luck.

You should check with your local fire marshal and first request information on the laws concerning burning within your local area. Some cities or counties require that all exterior burning be performed in a pit or burn bucket. If you feel that the individual is illegally burning or that you feel that there is a safety concern, voice it at the time you contact your fire marshal.

Which country? Contact your local council if it is in the UK. Check if you live in a smokeless zone. Ask the council for advice regarding such fires. Speak to your neighbour if it is causing a problem. Is it every day or just occasionally?

If you are in the UK, you arent allowed to have a bonfire before 6pm. This is just common courtesy, so I suggest contacting the council and/or citizens advice Bureau - who are good at this sort of thing.

If it's not against a law, I guess get in touch with the neighbor and find out why they're doing it, and voice your concerns.
If it is against the law - I would suggest the police or sherif?

your neighbor. ask them to please stop. some municipalities, for budget reduction purposes have stopped picking up brush, leaves and grass and the only way to get rid of the stuff is to burn. it is summer time, maybe stand around the fire at night and have a beer together.
good luck
