There is no magic age when a child should be moved to a toddler bed - every child is different. Most child health care professionals will tell you until at least 2 if possible. But if your child is climbing out of the crib or is taller than average and might fall out then you may want to consider doing it earlier. You need to see where your child is and whether or not it's a good move for he/she.

My son moved to his big boy bed (twin size) when he was 20 months because my daughter was born and we needed the crib. He did a great job staying in bed and putting himself to sleep. My daughter is 19 months and I couldn't imagine putting her in one yet, I doubt I could keep her in it. I hope I can keep her in the crib until she is two but she is a climber so the minute she tries to climb out it'll be a toddler bed for her.

Good Luck

When they try to climb out! Don't want the little one to get hurt. My one son was in a toddler bed at a year and a half. The other one... well... he's 27 months and still in his crib. I'm to the point where I am trying to teach him how to climb out just so I can put up the boys' bunk beds!

i think close to 2 but if he/she will stay in the bed and not crawl or jump out its time , you can also try removing a side rail from your crib and lowering it to the bottom notch and put a bunch of pillows around it on the floor and see if baby stays-- the also make a bed attachmnt for adult and toddler beds it like a mesh screen that goes down the bed you attach it under the bed. my duaghter is 16mnth and still in crib though.

I think it depends on the kid. My little boy is 3 and still in a baby bed. He screams when I put him in the toddler bed, and he doesn't try to climb out of his baby bed. I say keep them there as long as you can.

my doc said when they climb out...
we did it when his chubby little arm got stuck in the railing :) he wasn't hurt, just confused. He never tried climbing out.
Just do it when they are ready, don't set a time limit on it!
He was 20 months?...maybe 21.
A LOT of people told me to keep the crib for a bit just in case...we just moved it on out and never spoke about it again. I was worried he wouldn't sleep in it but he did, like a champ. If your children adapt well to things and situations, they will make the change easily. For example, are they still using a "paci" or the bottle? But saying stuff like "we're gonna sleep in our big boy bed" helps too! Also getting a fun bed~ours is Sponge Bob of course! Good luck

it depends on the child. i had to put my baby in a toddler bed at the age of one (couldn't even walk yet but was a vary good climber). after he fell out of the crib twice i decided it was time to move him. when the baby waked up and its time for you to go and get him/ her stand a foot or two from the crib and hold out your arms, see if she/he tryes to climb out to get to you or see it he/she will try to lean over the edge of the crib. If he/she can lean over the edge of the crib it may be time to move the baby.

My first son was 13 months when we moved him. I never had a porblem with him leaving the bed. How ever his brother ( 1 yr younger) is now 18 months, and i still havent moved him, cause he is a mover and a shaker. I think depends on the kids personalities.
