three blind mice starts with a very easy line, then gets a little more difficult (but not too hard).
it is also easy to play as a duet (or a trio).
it is a very good tune to start with.

I usually start them out on little three note songs. Hot Cross Buns is very easy. Once they can read that one, move them along to Merrily We Roll Along (Mary Had a Little Lamb), French Song, and maybe Donkey Round. Or, once they read B, A, and G, play little games to arrange a new song. Ask a series of musical questions, and as a different child answers each one, let them pick a note, then a duration (quarter, half, or whole note). You keep track of the notes on a large musical staff that's drawn on the board. Do your own editing to make it fit a basic form, and you get a new song that the children can also name themselves. They get very excited when you make them actively involved in the creative process.
