I should of pointed out, that when I moved into my place in March of this year. The people did not want the dog, so I told them to leave it with me. Noose is about 2 years old and he has been outside for those years. He has 10 acres of land to run around on, so he does not get tied up, ect. He does not want to come in the house. He likes to come on the porch for his biscuits then he's off. He is a great dog, half pit and half something else. Such a friendly dog. I would like to breed him w/ a pit because of his laid back personality.

Advantage and Frontline do work, as others have noted. For herbal treatments, try Pennyroyal (it's an herb that can be used in oil form and applied to the fabric of a dog's collar or bandana). It smells pretty good, too!

Frontline Plus monthly is the best.
I've heard Neem Oil (available at natural health stores) aid in keeping fleas down. Not sure how effective on dogs that stay outdoors all year round.

First of all, dogs should live inside with you. It's much healthier for them and they're much happier.
But for the fleas, you need to treat your entire yard with either a spray or a pellet to prevent them from coming into the yard. And put some frontline on your dog.

Go to your health food store and ask for diatomaceous earth. It's a white powder that is 100% safe, that you can sprinkle on or around anything - including the animals. You can sprinkle it in your carpets, the dogs bedding, etc.. What it does is dehydrate the fleas and eggs so that they die. When my dad was dying from cancer, we couldn't have any chemicals around him, and the vet turned me on to this as a flea treatment. 100% natural, it works and it's cheap. It also helps for parasites. Frontline, or ask your vet. Best case scenario, bring the dog inside.

I have had excellent luck with Frontline. That is something you apply just once and it lasts for several months or more. Ask your vet about it.
