Is it possible for a female, while in heat, to be bred with multiple males, and have offspring of each?

Okay, I did not say I was going to try and breed my dog with 10 different males, I simply asked if it were possible. Ask questions, it is how we learn things...

yes it is possible for a litter to have different fathers within the litter.
"..., a female dog can be impregnated by several male dogs during her fertile cycle; if the dogs are not watched closely and appropriately confined, some puppies in the litter may have different fathers than other puppies. Thus, in kennels where males and females of different breeds typically run together, mixed breed puppies can actually be registered as purebred. This is not uncommon with puppy mill dogs or with backyard breeders who have several breeds, and has led to many complaints that the puppy purchased as a particular breed has grown into a dog that looks like something else."

Yes, and its also possible in cats. I've seen one female's litter have puppies that matched three seperate males, two pupies per kind! This can happen when a female gets out in a pack of males that all try to get the chance. Only one swimmer does the job, but multiple swimmers are trying for the eggs, so multiple breed puppies, or kittens, can result. Crazy huh? They will all be very mixed, but will have some of all the traits of each other in them anyway, thanks to mom. You won't have a dalmation pup and a sheepdog pup, but you may have a longish-haired dalmation pup and a sheepdog pup with some spots!

Yes, however mostly dominant traits will surface. So even if you breed a Chocolate Lab with a Golden Retriever, Boxer, and Dobbermann, you may not see a Golden style dog in your litter since there are many more Dominant traits held by the other dogs. I had a Black Lab mate with a German Short hair and a German Shephard and had ALL Black labs in a 12 puppy litter. Go figure.

YES it is possible. I know of someone who it happened to - purebred border collies. There was a yellow shepherd X a neighbor had (many complaints about the dog killing livestock etc) and she had 1 that looked like him and the rest looked like purebred BCs. The litter was lost though - even though the body type and all looked like the male BC there was a doubt and the person didn't register them because of the one that for sure WASN'T. So yes, if the timing is right with multiple eggs shed it DEFINITELY can happen.

Yes, it is possible, and they can be of different ages, as well. If they are spread too far apart, the female may have trouble with the size of the older ones...
The females will release several eggs each cycle, and the sperm from any male can fertilize them.
This is never an adviseable practice.

Yep. This is why some people favor DNA testing for litters.
The person who wrote about "dominant traits" is a little confused. Each puppy has one father. The traits of the fathers do not mix, therefore there is no way one father's trait can dominate the others. It's all a matter of which sperm hits the egg first. (One father may have better "little swimmers", but that's another whole story...)

Yes this is very true so if you only want 1 mum and 1 dad then keep them away from other males.
Yes if the woman produces more then 1 egg and she has sexual intercourse with more than 1 man she can have babies from both males this is a true fact.

Yes. And now, thanks to DNA testing, you can use 2 males and then run DNA to see which pup was sired by which male. Very handy if you really like 2 males but only want to have one litter.
I believe artificial insemination is usually used when using multiple sires.

Take your d o g to the v e t and have her spayed. If you want multiple kinds of pups, go to the animal shelter; they have hundreds.
