If they're in a municipal detention center, and the individual is there awaiting trial, it is likely that the department of corrections would not have any information regarding the incident that the person was incarcerated for. On the other hand if they were convicted and sentenced then it would be possible. Your first stop should either be to the Clerk of Court where the individual was arrested, or the detention center itself. Different states have different laws on the information that can be provided to you.

You can find almost any inmate to any state online. On a search bar you type in whatever state you are looking deparment of correction ( example: New Jersey deparment of corrections) once you are at the site you can click on the link that will say something along the lines of locate an inmate or something like that. You type in there name in the search form and they will tell you where they are at. You might have to search through people who have the same name. The search engine should have name and date of birth and such things.

redsoxgirl is correct. Sometimes you don't need the d.o.b just the first and last name of the person. Go to the detention center website and type in your request or go to ask.com and type in your request and it will get the information for you.(site address)

You should be able to contact the booking department at the jail. They may not be able to give you his criminal record but they can tell you what he is currently in for and his release and court dates.
