1/3 WHITE VINEGAR 1/3 WATER 1/3 ALCOHOL. PUT IN EAR A FEW TIMES A DAY, IF THE DOG SWIMS ON A REGULAR TH ATS HOW THE YEAST GETS STARTED IN THE EARS. THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE EARS DRY AFTER SWIMMING AND KILL ANY YEAST.

I have a pug who gets yeast in his ears, because of the folds on his face hold moisture he gets yeast there and through scratching he transfers it to ears. Yeast will not be black, the dogs ears may have a wax build up that is brown or dark brown, the yeast would , not to be gross look like snot if it is really bad. It sounds to me like it is more likely to be mites, but either way i would take him to a vet. IF for some reason it is yeast the medicated ear drops will be a baytril and conofite solution that only your vet will be able to provide you.

This is from the E-How site:http://www.ehow.com/tips_2209.html
Our Lab has had a problem with yeast infections in his ears. I have found a cheap and effective way to cure his problem. I clean his ears with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water. After the ear in clean and dry, I use an over the counter ointment like Monistat 1-Day and treat the infected ear for 7 days. Using the vinegar and water each time has proved to be a wonderful way to solve our problems.
Several responders recommended the Women's yeast treatment.

Some ear infections don't follow the typical symptoms. The vet needs to diagnose what is causing the infection before anyone can tell you what will fix it. Treatments for yeast will not clear up bacteria and without looking at the debris in the microscope you cannot know what it causing the black stuff. It's possible for it to be just wax too.

If you are unable to bring your dog to the vet, the best thing to do is to just clean the ears out with cotton balls and either boric acid, or vinegar and water mixture until you can get him in.

what breed is your dog?? Most dogs with floppy ears that don't get enough air in there, tend to have yeast infections. Black tarry discharge sounds like Malassezia. Ask your vet to do a culture of the ear to be sure. You should then do daily cleanings for a week...followed by as needed cleanings. You can try some ear drops with anti fungal, antibiotic, and steroids in them......Tresaderm works best. Have your vet check it out!!

How do you know it's a yeast infection?
Sweet fruit like odor from ear is possibly a yeast infection. Strong odor like decaying meat with a black discharge is usually mites.
Be sure. Consult with a Vet. They will provide proper meds and instructions.

put together a solution of water and vinegar and flush his ears with it. But are you sure it's not ear mites. My yorkie had the black stuff and I couldn't get rid of it. I also did not think it was mites but finally took him to the vet and sure enough it was. put him on ear drops for a week and hasn't had any problems since.

Take your dog to the vet, if it is yeast there could be infection as well.

My vet recommeded putting alcohol drops in my dog's ears - I do this any time she starts scratching, and it works great - doesn't hurt, and dead cheap!
