I just started celebrationg holidays my son is turning one soon.
I have never attended a childs birthday party. Does anyone have ideas? He (my son) likes snoopy(peanuts character). I know he won't remeber it but I want it to be fun and have good pictures for his baby book. Thanks

First of all Congrats! I am celebrating my sons next month! I'd pick a theme...which you said you have...check either some party shops or online stores like birthdayinabox.com and see what is out there to go with your theme...then buy some things to decorate, order a cake and use plain cheaper plates, napkins ect that color coordinate with your theme. Mail out some invitations...of course it will mostly be family probably...and even send them to people who are out of state...even if they cannot come they will most likely send gifts, esp for a 1st Birthday. Then the day of the party, set up, lay out some snacks (oh-plan the time for when your child is in a good mood and not around a meal that way you can just provide finger foods rather than a meal). Make a timeline for the party to keep it flowing...and SMILE! It'll be a blast no matter what...oh-another thing I'm doing...if you either don't mind the mess, or plan it for outdoors...make you child a special cake for them to devour and play in :-) Have fun!

My friend's daughter just celebrated her first birthday, and she made cupcakes instead of doing one big cake, so that the baby could have her own without having to buy/make an entire separate cake. She is moving right now, so rather than having the party at home, she did it at a community center on a weekend afternoon - less cleaning ahead of time, simple cleanup. If you really want Snoopy decorations for the party (that's so cute), then Hallmark or a party supply store is probably your best bet - I think Hallmark has more Peanuts party products than anywhere else.

Okay you say your son looks like snoopy from the Peanuts Gang. This is what I would do, I would Find Some Picture and toy (decorations) of the Peanuts Gang, Make a Cake With them on the Cake Or Go to A bakery Or WAL-MART and give them a picture of him With peanuts gang with him next to snoopy. Or do a party on something he likes or wacthes all the time.

well if your baby likes Snoopy then so be it , use a Peanuts theme. Have him a Snoopy cake made , most Bakeries can accomadate you there and maybe get a bunch of balloons but make sure to get white and black (Snoopy colors of course) maybe make a velcroe pin the tale or "Bird" on Snoopy, maybe get a Snoopy Dog stuffed Toy and play hide Snoopy and get some inexpensive lil gifts to give out to winners. Having 6 kids that was always one of the FAVE games because everyone can come out with a gift, you hide the stuffed toy and let the children find it after they have found it they get to go play with their toy as the others find theirs. Etc.... Good Luck and trust me yes the memories are GREAT!!!!

Usually with a first birthday party there are more relatives because at that age kids don't have friends. We had the cake and party and lots of pictures. You can pick any theme he likes. I'd make him a little cake that is all his, like a cupcake and have the larger cake for guests. We just celebrated my grandson's first and that's how we did it. It's the same way we did it for my son 35 years ago so guess things don't change much. The best pictures are the ones with him "eating" his cake.

I would just buy decorations that he likes (or you've chosesn for him) and have cake and ice cream. I'd get a second smaller cake for just him to dig in and get all messy with, those will make the best pictures. Invited family and friends and take lots of pictures. You're right, he wont remember it, but if you takes notes on what he got for his baby book, and lots of pictures, that will be enough.

If you have lots of help, you could set up a "carnival" type party where kids can play games to win prizes. You can't forget the grab bags for all the kids - visit the Oriental Trading Company for some ideas (www.orientaltrading.com).
