First off...Its Atkins not Adkins

There is a book called New Diet Revolution. The Author is Dr Atkins.

Ive read it twice and gives you the science behind the diet. why it works and why you gain the SECOND you come off of it.

The diet really works but you cant cheat. Once you do you just killed a day and have to start over.

By the urine test strips. I used to do that nightly. The more purple they become the more fat you are burning.

Keep under 20 grams of carbs a day.

And eat mostly proteins.

Really you should just go get the book

As for the negative commenters above...

some dont know even how to spell ATKINS.

Some suggest he died of a heart attack...not true

He died slipping on ice here in NYC

Atkins has been proven to LOWER Cholesteral and LOWER Triglycerides. My own Dr is on Atkins although in a OWL form.

I would not recommend that diet. What I would recommend, is lowering your simple carbohydrates (refined sugar, bleached flour) and eating more complex carbohydrates (fresh fruit, whole grains). Lower your intake of red meat and eat chicken (not fried) or fish (tuna is cheap and you can do a lot with it). Drink a lot of water!!! People who drink a lot of water tend to be thinner. Make sure you are getting the calcium and vitamin D you need. I usually eat 3 yogurts a day. Yoplait light is really good, low in calories and still tastes great. The active cultures will really help you out. Drink Green Tea, it helps your metabolism if yours is lacking. And the antioxidants will prevent you from getting cancer. I like Kashi Go Lean Cereal. Make sure you don't skip meals. When you starve yourself you put your body into starvation mode and it's harder to lose weight. Plus you are not losing the things you want to lose like fat. Try eating 3-4 small meals a day so you aren't hungry all day. Just remember that if you want to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you ingest, but you also need energy! Stay away from the simple carbs and you should be good! Good Luck! Hope this helped.

The only true way to lose weight is to begin a regular exercise program and consume fewer calories. It is sad to see the dollars wasted on diets by good people who are scammed by diet programs.

umm, get off the diet. Just eat smart. Plenty of vegetables and fruits. Whole grain breads and rice. And please don't starve yourself. When people get on diets and starve themselves they are not losing fat tissue, they are in fact wasting away their muscle.

Whoa! Stormy. Where in the world did you get the idea that bread wasn't good to eat? What about all the people of old that ate a lot of bread, bread is good for you. Read the Bible

Throw away the diet books. All you have to do to lose weight is exercise, eat lots of veggies, only eat meat that is broiled, boiled, or grilled. Stay away from breads as much as you can and drink lots of water. Not flavored water, but good drinking water.

Why in God's name would you go on Atkins? It has been proven to cause heart disease!
Sure it's a good way to lose pounds very quickly, but the minute you go off of it you gain the weight right back.
Anyway, why would you go on a diet whose creator died of a heart attack caused by following his own diet plan? It's crazy!

eat plenty of meat chicken fish eggs cheese and veg just leave out the carrots etc and potatoes and the pasta and the bread have cream in your coffee be strict with your options friend has done this diet now for 2yrs he lost 3stone goes hill walking no longer has indigestion and is looking better than he ever has works for him but may not work for others its free choice I couldn't do it .....

Be very careful with that diet. I know several people that were hospitalized on it by not following the diet the way your supposed to.

Whatever happened to simply eating HEALTHY and getting proper EXERCISE?

Simple way to lose weight......are you ready?

Burn more calories than you take in.

Wow complicated....I hope that makes sense.
