Martin Luther was lead by the holy spirit to show the people the truth. Some got it and some still don't get it.

They were'nt Martin Luther's writings, well they were but God was speaking through him. Martin Luther spoke the truth, and people hate the truth. If you still have questions, there is a movie about Martin Luther that you can rent. You should aslo read the bible so you will know that the Catholic church was wrong and Luther was right.

Martin Luther had the backing of politicos that wanted to break the political power of the church. Interesting thing about Martin Luther leaving the priesthood.....he married a nun who also left shortly after they were both thrown out of the church.

It wasn't just Luther; protestantism was boiling up throughout Europe in response to the growing corruption that the Catholic church was fostering with the "we're the church, we can't do wrong" behaviors. So the schism existed before it was formalized. Formalizing it was difficult because the Catholic church was *the* church, with anybody who wanted a reduced-corruption version of the religion being excommunicated (or worse), making it difficult to really set anything up without the baggage. Luther was lucky enough to have an oodle of clout from his time as a (distrubingly devout) monk and political swing from German rulers, not to mention the guts to go deface a church door, so we remember him first and foremost.

Simply put, Martin Luther wrote what he thought and many people agreed with him and many didn't.

Because God was sick and tired of the Catholic church.
But as we have seen the lutheren Church is now just as bad as the catholic church. And then came William Booth who started the Salvation Army, but satan has made them lame also.
It's time for another reformation of the Church,a "back to the basic's " "street Church"!

because people have to realize that religion is created by man not by God. People made religion to get closer to God. One religion would say hey we have the answer to get closer to God come and join our church, and for century's people went on believing that they have the answer on how to get closer to God, and none of them work. If people wanted to get closer to God. Just learn the words that Christ taught us. but people for get that, and relies on their church. Even Martin Luther said "Salvation can survive outside the church, but not outside Christ."

It is not like he was the only follower that was unhappy with the changes in the church over time.
He was jealous of the church's power and corruption and wanted it all for himself. He was obviously not convienced of the whole "Burn in hell, heretic" concept.

He wasn't the only one fed up with the corruption of the church, he was just the first who had the cahones to do something about it.
Then he promptly went about creating his own corrupt church.
