To be honest I'm asking because I want to meet a girl that understands me like my last girlfriend did and gets my jokes without me having to explain them, but I haven't met anyone since her and long history apart I'm not willing to go back to her for various reasons so that's not an option either. Any suggestions then of where I can find and meet crazy, random and unique people that could possible get the 'real me'? All the places I've tried (clubs, bars and through mutual friends) have come up empty so far.

Did you meet your last girlfriend in a club, bar, or through a mutual friend? And so what if you haven't found that joke understanding with a gir; maybe she has something even better, something that your last girlfriend didn't. You shouldn't just say no to girls that didn't have that characteristic. It's like you have girlspotting goggles on that point out which girls you shold and shouldn't date. Don't do that. Stay open for any options that pass you by. Try opening up to a type of girl that you've never really gotten close to. Try this, and you might be happier! :) Have a nice day! :)

Hmm. Tough one.
I'm with you, bars aren't relly good places to meet people.
Of course, you want to meet girls in a natural way, that is, not in an artificial setting, so perhas the best thing to do is find a club or organization that appeals to both men and women...and, you're in luck, because I have a suggestion.
Check out the SCA; they're historical recreationists, and have a large (very large!) membership, and most of the members are younger (20-30). They do all sorts of hands-on things: making all manner of items, archery, camping, armoured combat, and, to make it even sweeter, the girls all do their best to look beautiful at all times!
Anyway, it's just a suggestion; the SCA welcomes new members, and can be found online at SCA.org. Good luck!

Ya know, I used to think that meeting people through Internet services was kind of weird...but I now know several people that are in good long-termed relationships because of those services. Try eHarmony.com or match.com or something like that. My current manager married someone he met like that (and she's cute too) and I have another friend about to celebrate her 2 year anniversary with a guy she met that way. Those services help you find people near you, so it's not a long distance thing.
If I were still in the same boat you are in now (because I was about 4 years ago), I would do that myself.

Why not try joining an evening class or a club. I don't think you are going to meet someone in a bar or a night club to have a long lasting relationship with.

It never hurts to keep your eyes open. But rather than spend all your time and energy trying to find someone, why don't you spend that time and energy doing the things you love, or learning something new..expand your horizons. I'm quite sure there are many people who would enjoy your company and love you for the good guy you are, what you're underestimating is that you can also do that for yourself. What's for you won't go by you...

HI, It really depends on what your into like music or the arts, try looking up palces off intrest around your area like classes or actually meetings maybe speed dating.?!! I think that mite be your baest think have a look on the internet look in the local papers for socal gatherings for the things you like to do take a mate let him he your wing man.see how it goes if not join an on line dating agencey they match people up. Know the feeling love, if you find an answer can you let me know? ....And forget clubs and pubs, I know that for definate. Trouble is, you can't really tell if someone is your type of person until you talk in depth with them, so usually it will be through people you know or at work etc.

dont panic. even though it may seem ages you have been searching, if you believe you will one day find someone - you will. sometimes you have to just wait. dont search too hard, it might drive you crazy. it sounds like you still miss your girlfriend and the type of relationship you had, it is unlikely you will find someone just like her so look for something new and you may be suprised. best wishes.

Try the local nut house, homeless shelter, welfare office. There will be plenty of girls there who well be willing to understand you. most will be crazy, random and unique at least.
