I was wondering if Los Angeles is a nice place to live. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and I'm getting sick of the rain and mild weather.

I grew up in Los Angeles and I visit Vancouver quite often.

Culturally, they are very similar. However:

Expect traffic in LA to be about 5 times heavier. Commute times are ridiculously insane.

Real estate is about 2-3 times higher, even in suburban areas, compared to downtown Vancouver.

The summer temperatures are higher and we do have more sunny days. However, when LA gets El Nino storms, the weather gets BAD and stays bad for weeks.

You think crime in Vancouver is bad? Take the worst of Vancouver's crime problems - the gangs, car theft, drugs, illegal street racing - and multiply it. There are more gangs, more car thefts, more drugs... all because there are more people.

To be quite honest, I left LA about 7 years ago and I only go back to visit my family once or twice a year. I get the shakes every time I drive down there and it lasts for hours. I've never felt scared for a moment in Vancouver.

If you're really that tired of the weather, check out inland BC. It's about the same weather as LA.

Listen.... I have never been to Canada so really can't compare but I have lived in Los Angeles all my life and have traveled quite a bit around the US. Let me tell you this LA it fun... Plenty to do and see... and if you can't find something to do in this city then you are pretty much hopeless... I tell you... Lived here 32 years and I still find new thing to see and to and find stuff I never knew existed here. So don't get me wrong I believe LA has plenty to offer everyone it pretty much safe once you get the vibe of the city, LA does have crime just like EVERY MAJOR City on the planet. By the Way... just a little fact... LA has more sunny days that entire state of Florida the only other places that see more sun are Arizona, and I think Hawaii.

I've lived here pretty much all my life. I'm used to living here, but if you are new to L.A. you have to get used to dealing with people from all over the world, traffic, people's attitudes, gangs and the most fun part...earthquakes.

L.A. is getting so crowed is getting ridiculous, and according to government estimates, it's population is going to nearly double in a little over 10 years. Due to that, rent is going through the roof. A one room apartment that 4 years ago cost 500 dollars, now costs 1,000 or more in somewhat good area. In fact, renting a room from someone generally rents between 450 to about 1,000 dollars. Auto insurance is through the roof as well. If you have kids or plan to have any, schools are overcrowded, with favoritism given to white and asian kids. Boy, I can go on and on!

I know so many people that have moved here from other places and now regret it. I also know a few people who have or are planning to move somewhere else.

If you are thinking to move here just because of it's weather, then that's sad! You'll be paying a high price for what some consider good weather. If you can call temperatures of 110 decrees in the valley, like we had last week, "good weather." And summer is not here yet, it's going to be a hot one!

LA does have it’s good side, but most people only consider the good side of the city and they never consider the other negative side. Think hard and long about it!

Depends what u like. LA is a bigger city than vancouver, there is a high cost of living, a lot of traffic, and it is smoggy-which means it is technically sunny, but not really. Not my taste at all, but if your main concern is getting away from the rain and stuff, than LA is definately a way to go. I don't know if you're thinking LA specifically because you got a job offer or something, but if you are just thinking southern california I would reccommend looking into San Diego.

i live in l.a. and u want to stay in vancouver b/c l.a. is such a big time traffic city it took me 3 hours to get to work in downtown and it normally takes me 30 minutes if i'm going 90 mph it's big dirty and nasty and hot if you are sensetive to smog you don't need to go if u do move to la avoid areas like east l.a. and watts or south central anytime of day you might want to live in orange county or burbank if you move to l.a. but only if u want to pay top dollar almost all places in l.a. are expensive to live in my apartment on huntington beach is very expensive and you might find a better deal if u shop around but be sure and take ur time i hipe i helped! like a person said above the schools are crazy and they do favor certain kids it's a big crazy city and auto insurance is also crazy beacause people in la. drive crazy and u better drive fast if u value ur life beacause they will run u over and they don't care about you or themselves it's all about who can go the fastest it's like nascar out there so drive fast but be careful!

LA is the place! (only if you have a lot of money ! [ a 4 bedroom house that looks like %%% is worth $800,000] )

The best thing is the freeways and we have lots of history and culture and sometimes it rains (oh no!) but we are nice and you just have to get used to being talked to and try not to spend alot of money
