Do you believe everything written in the Bible? Or do you take it all with a grain of salt, knowing that it was written by men?

Here's the answer I wrote for a similiar question. I've got a lengthy opinion on this which is why I'm not typing the whole thing out again;-)

I personally believe that the bible, being created by man (who is imperfect) not to mention the fact that most of it was only written down a few hundred years after the original authors died, and the fact that different churches have the power to supress the bits they don't like, (not saying that definetly happened, just that it's possible) and the fact that it has gone through so many translations over the years... no, not 100% correct. I believe the bible is there to give us a guideline as to how to decide what we believe, and how God would like us to live. But I also think that God would be dissapointed if we didn't excercise that free will and intelligent thought He gave us.. I honestly don't believe that every person has the same truth- no two people can have the exact same beliefs, because no two people are exactly alike. Also, we have to take into consideration that that which was written 2000+ years ago was written from the perspective of people who were confined by the beliefs, knowledge and laws of the time (by the laws I don't mean they were prevented from writing things they wanted to, I mean that certain things that were official laws back then were considered devine mandate... often times laws and "spiritual commandments" were considered the same thing) For instance- in many of our english translations, homosexuality is directly called an 'abomination', although 1. they had no concpet of 'homosexuality' as we know it today- they saw only two 'straight' men going against their nature and sleeping together and 2. the word that was translated as 'abomination' actually means (in the original context) "something forreign, and unknown"- i.e. something not practised or accepted by that specific writer's community.

I'm referencing that example not to make a political point but because it's the only specific example I personally know of. But I'm sure there must be others.

Which is why- live your life by your own moral standards. If you believe something is wrong, don't do it. God will judge you according to what your intent was during your life (at least, thats what I believe)

I take it with many, many grains of salt. Not only was it written by men, it's also been translated countless times. Who knows if the modern versions of the bible have the same texts as the original bible?

I don't believe anything written in the bible. I view it as a book of "moral" stories. It's changed so many times, and it's basically just word of mouth! We're too smart to give any merit to rumors.

Some things in there may have been based on real events, but have been so extremely exaggerated that it makes it hard to logically believe any of it.

A grain of salt is worth more than all the Bibles in the world combined.

The Bible is just a collection of ancient myths, legends, religio-political writings, etc. There's nothing even slightly inspired in it.

I do believe every word in the Bible. It was made through men. God wrote the Bible using men to write it down. He put the words in their minds so that they can write them down. He pretty much wrote it Himself. If the whole Bible was written by God then i am totally going to believe the whole thing.

I believe that the Bible is the word of a wise man and not and superior being. The Bible just tells us how to live our lives as good people and recent events that occurred throughout history.
All the holy books are the same and are man written (to my personal opinion that is.

I believe in a LITERAL translation of teh Bible. Nothing is made up. It is the word God spoke to the prophets and written down since the beginning of time.

I follow the teachings of the Bible completely. As for being written by men, of course God had them write His divinely inspired words. The writing may be by man but the words are by God.
