It used to be that any ID was sufficient, the ID was for airline liability they had to know who was on board the plane. You should tell them to be careful now, though, as things are changing. It should be a really important trip for them to risk flying now.

No. Well, they could try, but if they get caught (which is likely), they might face deportation. Are they really here illegally, though? There are different types of visas - not all foreigners came into the country illegally.

If they are illegal they aren't even supposed to be IN the US.
They need a government issued picture ID to get past security, too.

Not unless they have some type of US ID( Driver's or State ID).
I know from experience. You can't travel with your country's passport unless you have an active visa.
