...just because it's already been going on so long?

When water from your toilet is rapidly gushing into all areas of your home, do you go sit on the couch and put your feet up to watch tv under the notion that you shouldn't do anything about it since you've known it's had a slow leak for years?

Well, it would seem that at least Hazleton, PA got it right. They are implementing a new law that would revoke a businesses license for employing illegal immigrants. Seems like San Bernadino, the largest county in the country, is following suit and looking to employ the same laws as well.

As for your original question "Do you think we should do nothing about this illegal immigration problem?". I have to point out a few key points in order to give a logical, reasonable and efficient, non-emotional based answer. (I know you're a female, so bear with me on the non-emotional portion of things. j/k)

“The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty first, the ‘love of soft living’ and the get-rich-quick-theory of life”---Teddy Roosevelt

"Love of soft living" - with the use of illegal immigrants for cheap part time labor, the middle to upper class Americans and the thinking involved is "it's good for me and it employs needy people as well". This creates a dillusion of Master-servant and is self-destructive at the same time. Remember "All power corrupts".

Judging from what is known throughout history, it is only a matter of time before the servants get tired of thier roles. With that we can logically deduct that eventually the servant will try and overthrow the master. Unfortunately, this is the role of the illegal to the middle/upper class American

Watching the March, April and May immigrant marches, it wasn't too hard to see the heavy resentment, the entitlement and loud accusations of fat lazy Americans, you need us to care for you, proof that the master-servant, nearly symbiotic relationship is a daily occurrence and not a healthy one either.

In answer to your original question: it's a matter of realizing the long term consequences of unbridled migration. Eventually things will come to an uproar as they already are in the streets with protests and such. Give it time, if we do nothing we will eventually be heading towards a "Civil War II". Sounds crazy right now, but when a little thought is put into it, I think most can recognize the possibility.

Of course we should do something! Our administration is dragging its heels, and it's up to us to make sure they don't lose sight of the problem! First of all we need to secure our borders, then we have to look at deporting the illegals who are already here ... it may take time, but let these people know that there will be NO amnesty, and they WILL get caught ... thirdly, change the absolutely ridiculous law that you become an American citizen just because you're born here ... at least ONE of the parents should be a U.S citizen ... this idea of sending pregnant women over the border to produce "anchor babies" causes two fold problems ...a drain on our health services to produce the baby, secondly, you don't really deport the mother of a U.S. citizen ... hey presto, foothold established, so now we can open the door to aunts, uncles, fathers, mothers, siblings .... absolutely ridiculous!!

You're analogy is incorrect. Illegal immigration has not increased. The awareness of it has. We shouldn't be gullible and easily swayed by political spin.

A better analogy may be a toilet that has been slowly leaking since a house was purchased. The daughter, who is now a teen, was caught smoking last night and is about to get grounded. So, she points out the toilet leak, pointing out how it is using up a valueable resource and increasing the utility bill, hoping to deflect attention from herself. She hopes no one will reflect and think about the fact that she takes half hour showers and uses the hose to clean the sidewalks instead of a broom. She hopes that her parents (the electorate) will momentarily forget about the smoking (the economy, the war in Iraq, the price of gasoline) to focus on the leaky toilet (illegal immigration, gay marriage).

I am not saying nothing should be done about illegal immigration. I am just pointing out that it is not really a new issue, but rather just political spin issue du jour.

Something has to be done.. The American people have to speak up.... Border security first. Like someone said it needs to be just like the prisons and heavily guarded all 2000 miles of it.. Our country is too venerable. We have a weak link in our borders and the world knows it. That can't be safe for our country.. The birthright to citizenship law needs to be changed. That law needs changing NOW!!!
Illegal immigration causes an enormous drain on public funds. We cannot provide health care, and retirement security for own people if endless numbers of illegals continue to come here. It has to stop....
Mexico should quit using the U.S. as their social safty net and fix their own problems..

If they're illegal, the need to GO HOME.

If they want to pursue legalized citizenship, then I think they should have the right to do so. The biggest issue we're facing is that none of these illegals are paying taxes, but they're still sending their kids to public schools funded by tax dollars.

My opinion: Learn English, obey the laws, and come in legally. We'll get along just fine.

"But whos going to build the walls? The IMMIGRANTS!"

yeah the legal immigrants. Not the illegal immigrants that ruin our economy

I really love that excuse "its been happening for so long why is everyone so upset now!"

uhh geez, because they got our attention by protesting in the streets like idiots. I wonder if our forefathers would've had that attitude. "monarchys have been going on for so long, why should be build a republic!"

they are to a good start now but i think it should been alittle sooner. a fence like the ones prisons have signs in spanish that says danger then layout some mines.then another fence. the army ,guard or border protrol should protect it. all caugth some be tranported not to the nears but to the farthest border.for the ones already here. they should be like everyone else they should have the same papers i have ,they should have to go thru the same channels i have to going to get things done.

I hate to say it, but I think it is too late to do anything. Cities close to the border are already filled to the brim with illegals. The only thing to do now is to try to regulate the borders and let as few illegals in as possible. Unfortunately, because of the fact that contraception seems like a foreign idea to them, you are going to see a lot of American-born citizens being born to illegals on American soil, and there is nothing that can be done about that.

Massive deportation, build a fence/wall, fines and possible jail time for people who employ illegals

Are you kidding?

There is a huge impact on education and health care and other social services we will need desparately when the baby boomers retire.

We have to shut it down.
