Yes! At least return the call and let the person know you don't want to talk to him/her. If you feel that you're dealing with a stalker, however, go to the police. Calling someone who's stalking you is not a good idea - it might make them think they're getting your attention, in which case they'll continue to harass you.

I'd say it depends on who the "someone" is. If the someone is a telemarketer, and you didn't ask to be contacted, then heck no.
But if it's your Mom or a friend, then it's absolutely rude.
If it's someone you dated once and have no desire to see again, then you should have returned the call a few messages ago (although after MAYBE the third call without a response he / she probably should have figured it out).
The bottom line is, generally, it is RUDE to not return a phone call.

Sort of...you would think by call 4 they would get the hint...the polite thing to have done would have been to call back at least number 3 to say life is hectic and you're really busy yada yada yada...but someone that would call over 6 times is obviously a few cards short of a full deck and you might just have be a bit more blunt. I know when I broke up with a psycho I just had my phone number changed and made sure it was unlisted!

That depends...what type of relationship are you attempting to have with this person? If it is someone that you potentially care about, then you should return the call. If it is someone that will keep calling unless you call back and make it a point to tell them not to call, then you should call. Either way you should call, unless you might feel it to be detrimental.

I didn't use to think so, but ya, its rude.
I guess the polite thing to do would be to answer their call and just tell them you'll call them back later. After awhile they'll get the hint (hopefully).

Yes, it is rude. Of course, it is also rude for them to continue to harrangue you by calling constantly.

Not at all. Maybe they will get the hint that you don't wanna talk and eventually the messages will stop.

Probably, unless they are a bill collector or someone trying to sell windows or vinyl siding.
