why do people hit their own flesh and blood?

I cant understand how people can hit their own kids. Its disgusting!!! Yea my parents get mad at me too but they lecture me or ground me for a week and its done. They never laid a single hand on me. But why do other people hit their own kids!!! Last night my friend came to my house all beaten up. My mom and dad are doctors that work at a hospital and they took her with them couple hours ago because she had huge bruises especially on her head, she looked dehydrated, and i guess there were swellings. Thats horrible!!!! Why do parents hit their own kids?!?

They hate themselves and their own lives that is why. And it makes them feel powerful when they take someoneelses power away. They are in the same category as a bully, or child molester, or serial killer if you ask me. They all need to be locked up for life. On the other hand, they all need to be put to sleep like the dog they are. Why should we pay to keep them alive in prison when they aren't worthy of life. Thanks again for caring hun. It's me again.

Normal spanking I think is good, but when it comes to lethal blows that cause bruises and harm to the child... that is where a line should be drawn.

Some people get frustrated when taking care of a child that may or may not listen properly. And sometimes that turns into Anger and rage........ When it comes to this, the person should stop whatever they are doing and calm down. But there are a few examples that they actually act out the rage..... and that is sickening....

In the first instance parents hit their kids to put them in line, to teach them like any other living thing on this planet to put down rules, and then punish if the rules are broken.
But when it gets out of control then there are no excuses.

Your friend's parents need psychiatric help.Maybe your parents should have a talk with them.Some people are not fit to have children.At the same time plenty of nice people can't have children.A person should have a serious talk with himself/herself before deciding to have a kid.Whether they are ready to give time,patience,love and money for the kid.

As for physical punishment,not all kids need it.But some kids are truly little monsters.For them a little spanking won't hurt.But nothing serious as to leave a bruise.And never hit the child with a belt or hit him on the face.That's monstrous.Discipline the child if she/he needs it and the situation warrants the action.Don't take out your frustration on the poor child.

it is never ok to hit your kid that way...you never loose that much cool when disaplineing your child...but there are some forms of phsyical punishment that is ok...such as swatting useing a belt or a paddle...but only on the butt and with the pants on! if you spare the rod you spoil the child!!!! but you never go as far as what your friends mom/dad did! that is completely wrong and they need help immediately before it gets worse!
well some parents are born into that lifestyle (of beating their kids) and some just have bad anger problems or psychriatric problems,and they dont know how to handle their stress and anger in a possitive way... i dont agree with any form of punishment that means beating up your kid but it is completely ok to swat your children....and sometimes if a child is out of control verbally then a good smack in the mouth is ok as long as its not busting their lips or anything like that...i have done all these things and so have many other parents but it is never ok to go overboard!!! i hope she is ok and ill say a prayer for her

Unfortunately, the majority of people who hit and abuse their own children learned that behavior from their own family of origin, or by media (movies, t.v., etc.) or other significant influences in their lives. Generally speaking, unless there is an organic/ physiological root for such behavior (i.e., mental illness), abusive behavior results from learning that it is acceptible to release one's own anger and frustration in that manner, and is most times used as a means of manipulation and control over another person, animal, or inanimate object. An obvious conclusion can also be made that they have learned a disrespect for life itself, with little or no value for anyone (or anything) else's rights. Abusers usually have an attitude or belief system that says they themselves are the only one who matters or has rights, and often times exhibit an "You owe me" type value system. Even babies soon learn this theory as they throw temper tantrums to get their own way. Sad...many humans never grow or mature any farther than infancy in this arena.

I suppose for the same reason people rape their own kids. Parents can be cruel and short-tempered, and trust me, Mothers can be the worse. Perhaps they don't want them, or just don't realize what they're doing. Maybe its a mix of both.... Whatever the reason, it doesn't justify it, and its still wrong.

what you described (for the second time) is way out of line and illegal. But to spank a child, IMO, should be done if needed. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

They do that because their children misbehave a lot and the parents lose their temper and start hitting the children.

I think because they don't know any better, or because their own parents did it and feel they turned out fine.
Violence does not solve anything, it is short term gain for long term problems.

my mom whooped my @ss wen i did somethin wrong...hey it worked now im mature and all...but it depends on how the child develops...u cant go way to easy on the kids. u need some discipline in order to teach them.
