No difference just spelling. I believe the 'catsup' was the first spelling of it. I do know that it is supposed to have originated in China, which I find odd because tomatoes are native to the Americas. But thats what I heard.

The history says catsup was used first, but now it is considered old fashioned and "ewww", thanks to the word" cat "in catsup. Now it is a regional thing. Brooks used to have a bottling plant near here, and they spelled it catsup. Check on the Collinsville, Illinois web site. Link to the Largest Catsup bottle in the world. It's a water tower painted like a Brooks CATSUP bottle. Thanks for the opportunity to make a plug for local tourism. Come to Illinois, spend money, see water tower.

It doesn't matter, but I like the ketchup spelling better. Catsup reminds me of cat poo!

The only difference is in how the word is spelled. Kind of like the "some say to-MAY-to and some say to-MAH-to" thing...only in this case, it's in the spelling not pronunciation.
