Not too mysterious. It's been explained logically many times. There are many books on natural selection and all kinds of examples and evidence of it all around us.

of course it does,its natural-survival of the fittest the weaker dont survive to breed so the stronger increase naturally the process continues, the weak starve as the strong get all the food,over the years the weaker die out,and the process continues,self regulation weeding out the diseased,improving developement with each generation!......unfortunately humans have now started interfering in this process,disturbing the natural balance,global warming,strip farming on a massive scale leaving the earth raped and dead,our actions are having a serious effect,going against the eternal laws of nature,we are not eternal we have become like a nasty virus,nature will find a cure for-its got time its eternal-lets just hope it doesnt kill us all when it wipes out the little infection on its ****,weve become !.x

'Natural' selection would have to work in the 'natural' law. Just because we do not always recognize the law in operation, does not mean it does not exist.
