How many days has your female been in heat? It may be slightly different for Pek's but I breed my Bostons on days 11 and 13 or days 12 and 14. (Count from the first day you see her discharging blood.) Each dog is a little different, but that a good general rule if you want to do it with out ovulation testing. Also, when she is ready, her labia will swell to about twice the size as it normally is.

I do two breedings because the more puppies we have, the smaller they are, and with Boston Terriers, that's a very good thing. Don't let it get farther than two days apart, however, or the older puppies may get too big...

I don't know about them, but on those days, there's no way I could *keep* them from doing it! Ha! By then, she's in full heat and ready for the males.

With this last breeding, I did have to give my male a bit of confidence, since it was his first time, and it had to be quiet in the house, or he got too nervous. So, I got them together by themselves when everyone else was sleeping, and let them run.

As others have suggested, you can always do artificial insemination, too. We have to do that with our Bulldog.

The average gestation for a dog is 63 days. Make sure that you have a vet ready in case you have trouble along the way. So many things can go horribly wrong with a pregnant dog...

I hope this goes well for you, and you find wonderful homes for the babies, as well. Find yourself a vet or another Pek breeder who is willing to take phone calls and answer your questions. Having a mentor is a very useful thing in the breeding world.

Good luck!

And this... Responsibly, if you are to breed your dogs, and I mean this with respect and kindness, they need to conform to these standards... http://www.akc.org/breeds/pekingese/index.cfm

First I jujst want to say if youa re serious about having your two pekineses breed you should take them to the vet and make sure they are both in good health and not going to pass on any genetic problems to the offspring they can also do tests to tell you when your female is most likely to concieve. My reccomendation if the dogs are not breeding on their own then you can try artificial insemination.

We had a female beagle that went in heat. Brought a male over but SHE showed zero interest in him. We put them on the side porch and closed the door and watched from a window. She just sat down. We never did figure out what was up. Put them in a room alone where you can watch and see if the mate. Call the vet. Maybe he has a clue.

Sometimes Peeks can be hard to gett o breed.
Sometimes they must be artificial inseminated.
If you female is in the middle of her cycle and she is trying to stand for the male and he is not intersted he may never breed with any success.
There are males who will not breed. There are many causes.
If you really want puppies speak to your vet about how you can do and artificial or have your vet do it. If the vet does it is it can be expensive to have done. The collection kit is about $50 and you will have to collect from your male dog. Then it has to be deposited into the female via a utrine cathedar.

if she has just started her second heat, it may still be a few days before she is in full heat. just like humans, dogs will have a discharge during the peak time. give them time, I'm sure he will do his duty when they are both ready

are you sure you can find all of the puppies loving, responsible caring homes? that is the most important thing besides the health of the two parents. talk to your vet first, they would have the best answer for you.
