Judism was the man religion and sacrifices had to be made when people sinned for their entrance into heaven when they did. Adam had to do these sacrifices as well. Good questions!

They worshipped God individually up until the time of Moses. After the Exodus from Egypt, Judaism was the way to worhip God. Christianity is the way now, as was prophesied.
The true hope of the majority of all these is not life in heaven, but eternal life in paradise on earth. This is is harmony with the fact that had Adam and Eve not sinned, they would have lived forever in a paradise earth.
This is what Jesus promised his followers, and was God's purpose from the beginning:

Faith. In doing what God had said.
Gen 15:6, Abraham believed and was counted righteous.
Hab 2:4, The just shall live by faith.
Rom 5:1 Therefore been justistify by faith.
Heb 11: Without faith it is impossible to please God.
I do not know if they are in heaven. But I believe they do. Faith is to believe in God, and do what he want us to do. Lord had commanded them to use animal to sacrifice as an atonment. And they did. Their sons, one did, and the other don't. Cain who did not use animal, Lord was not pleased.
So, to follow the instruction of God, and they will be save.
In Hebrew, we learned that all the hero mentioned in the old testament, believed and was saved. (Heb 11, 12). So, I think it is the same salvation plan, both New T and Old T.
Different is, people in Old T look forward to Jesus on the cross, and they believe. For us in New T, we look backward on jesus and believed.
I hope I am of help to you.

Christianity is not a religion, it is a personal relationship with Jesus, God the Son. It has always been a personal relationship, from Adam, to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, David, and so on. None of those relationships were organized religion . They all knew God the Creator personally.

Itiswell4me is way off base about sacrifice. Sacrifice had nothing to do with "heaven." It concerns atonement for sin.

There was no heaven when Adam was "created." In ancient times people believed that when you're dead, you're dead. One achieved eternity through their children, hence the 1st commandment -- be fruitful and multiply!

It has always been about FAITH.
Faith that a Messiah would come to atone for their sins (before Jesus)
Faith in the Messiah that did come to atone for our sins (Faith in Jesus)
Romans 4:16 (NKJV)
Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
Galatians 3:7-9 (NKJV)
Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. [8] And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed." [9] So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
Galatians 3:14 (NKJV)
that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV)
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Hebrews 11:17 (NKJV)
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

God was their main God. And God didn't really talk to them in person. God talked to them either spiritually or as a voice. Yeah, read the old testament. Or ask an expert catholic. I'm catholic, but I don't know a lot.
