I am in a despute with a friend about the cost of traveling to New Zealand. Can you do one month with $1,000?

I want to travel on a budget, but I still like to have some luxury. Is the dollar tiple and is it realitively cheap?

I live in NZ and our cash income is quite low, but we live well. If you avoid tourist traps like Rotorua, Queenstown and the ski places, you'll save a lot of money and you won't miss much. Some of our most interesting places you hardly ever read about in the tourist brochures. Like the Southern Scenic Route; the coastal route from Dunedin to Te Anau. The lesser-known walking tracks like the Whangapeka track, the Heaphy track and Stewart Island's walking tracks. But buy your supplies before arriving on Stewart Island; the local shops are expensive. Compared with most developed countries, NZ is a cheap place to live, provided you do your homework first and avoid ripoff places. Yes, you could have a good time here for $1000 for a month. Stay in backpackers, avoid the scenic rail trips, hitch hike, travel by bus or see if any rental cars need returning to other centres.

If your total budget is 1000 dollars, the exchange rate willl improve that slightly, however, the cost of air fares will take a high proportion of that. To be in NZ for one month, your food budget alone will use whats left.

tell your friend, that yes 30 years ago that would have been realistic, but your friend will need more than 1000 dollars.
It is a good idea to buy your tickets early to get the best price. If you can pre pay some of your known expences before departure then do so. That leaves the spending money or out of pocket expences will be all the cash you need.

You might be able to do it for $1000 but you certainly aren't going to get the most out of the country. There is so much to see and do and a lot of it is free but it costs money to get there. You should have some sort of vehicle to get you around to different places. You could buy a van and then sell it and the net cost would only be about $100.

In my opinion you want a bigger budget to get the most out of the country.

Not cheap, especially for tourists. You certainly won't get luxury for that price. Also a lot of the really fun adventure stuff, especially in Queenstown is $100-$200. A beer alone is NZ$6-7 in most places. I would say minnimum NZ$3000 for a month and even then it will be tight.

properly in case you get the calculator out includes $33.33 per day... it is approximately 0.5 to a 0.33 of what you may decide for in australia new zealand except you by no ability purchase a lager by no ability have a capucino by no ability take out a woman and purchase her a drink sleep on peoples sofas and consume a lot of vegemite sandwiches...!!! even although in 0.33 worldwide international locations which would be a lot to have a good high quality time no longer worry the fee of a meal and a few beers etc etc so do you like a high quality time or a suffering distress time... oh and the $33.33 per day would not incorporate fee of flights it particularly is basically 240 days divided into $8,000

Excluding your plane ticket, you can hitchhike around, stay in Hostel, eat, and maybe have a beer or two, but that's about it.
Current USD to Kiwi is about 1.6 not triple. Do some research before and such an ignorant question

Think you got to beg, borrow, steal, rob and/or cheat in NZ. Unless you're travelling by bicycle and sleeping in tents and survivng on plucked fruits, it's really hard to stretch your $1K for a month. Check out the oanda website for exchange rates

Take it from Someone who traveled NZ on only 1000....hostels are super cheap...stay at charlie Bs in christchurch...southern laughter in queenstown...climb mt franz josef and then take train back to christchurch......everybody else is correct in the fact that this is not including ticket...enjoy
