Can you uninstall the new one?
Try uninstalling the new one, and then when you reinstall it, it will ask you what folder you want to install it in. Browse to the old version folder and it will replace all the files and your new folder will become the new one.
You couldnt uninstall it under Control Panel Add/Remove programs?

I am guessing you mean the Windows Messenger that came installed on your PC. You didn't list what operating system you have so I am going to assume Windows XP and that you have SP1 or higher installed.
To remove it go to Add/Remove Programs and then choose Add/Remove Windows Components. There would be a check next to Windows Messenger, remove the check and then click next and Finish to remove it. If you have an older OS I wouldn't recommend messing with it. It isn't as straightforward.

If it's MSN Messenger you can remove it from add/remove programs in the Control Panel, but if that does not work you can remove the folder containing the main files. You will find it at c:/program files/MSN Messenger.
If this is NOT MSN Messenger, try something similar. Good luck!

Uninstll the old yahoo messenger from the 'control panel'.
Restart the system.
Now install the new version of Yahoo messenger.
It should install.
You could mention which Windows you are using?

you cannot Directly delete any running programs...
Goto "Add/remove Programs"
there click "Remove" on the relevant program you wanna remove...
then alone you can install the newer version..
Try this...
