Don't forget some of these "imported" vehicles are actaully made in Canada. I am not trying to start any fights - I was actually interested in finding out about the actually taxes on new vehicles, and possibly importing one from the US - what additional duties would have to be paid.

Because Canada charges the US a fee or tax for importing our vehicles into their country. The money is then passed onto the buyer.

Canada has a large Value Added Tax, a type of sales tax, to pay for its horrific national health care.
