Seasalt...warm water...and a little baking soda....Make sure it's see salt....mix it together and your supposed to lean of the sink and shoot it up your nose....and it's supposed to drain out of your mouth....sounds really gross but works like a charm! do it about every 3-4 months and you shouldn't have to take any medicine ever again...

I suffer from the same issue. I have found that massaging the sinus cavity points on my face while applying pressure to the opposite ear (lying on on the opposite side of the clogged side. Kinda looks like watching tv on the floor). The point that works best for me is the soft tissue above the eye near the the middle of my brow. You can tell if it's the right spot because you will feel your sinuses moving whenever you massage the area in a circular motion. I find doing this for 3 to 5 minutes will usually do the trick. If not, I will get out of bed and blow my nose hard and then crawl back into bed and try again. That usually does the trick. I too use nasal spray but try to avoid it because it can exacerbate the problem in following nights. Good luck and you are not the only one that suffers from this!

It sounds like you have allergies. It is a good idea to see an allergist to determine what you are allergic to. There are a variety of treatments that can really help. Be careful of over the counter medications that can make you drowsy. The dullness of mind can be a side effect of your body working overtime trying to fight off the allergen. When your body is fighting an allergen your immune system is working overtime to "destroy" something that it thinks is bad, such as pollen - the same response that your immune system would mount if you were exposed to a cold virus - so the symptoms are the same.

It's sounds as if you have allergies and the blockage due to a nasal polyp. See an allergist or an Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) specialist and have them test you for allergies. If they can't treat the nasal polyp through medication, they may opt to remove it surgically, a simple out-patient procedure.
In the meantime, get yourself some over-the-counter medication. Benedryl works best to alleviate immediate syptoms and Claritin is good for prevention. Good luck!

There are several old and new drugs for allergy. Claritin is one but not the one most commonly prescribed my ENT men. Most do not cause drowsiness and Benadry does. See and allergist for skin testing and desensitizing shots.
There many good over the counter anti dandruff shampoos.

I agree with Jen.
I use something called a neti pot. Instead of sea salt I use Xylitol. It has been found to help prevent infection. The net results is that it cleans out your sinuses Here is a web site that explains what the neti pot does
