Good point. I suspect its because we concentrate on the humanistic level of relationships rather than leave things in the hands of God. Also we don't have busybody church brothers and sisters looking into our lives.

Probably because more Christians marry than atheists!
Atheists don't believe in God and contracts re marriage and commitment; so they just live together!!

It is a well-known fact that couples who just live together have separation rates many times that of married couples.
Christians know that only marriage is the right way to go.
So many of them marry who probably don't really have the personal tools to maintain such a powerful relationship ... whereas, the relatively fewer agnostic couples that do reach the point of marriage have probably lived together for some time, or are the really committed types, who better 'put things together' among those agnostics.

They only have a lower rate when both are atheists or agnostics. Christians have a higher rate in spouses where there is only one trying to be a christian. Also, atheists don't believe in God or his laws so they are basicall evolutionists so we are just intelligent animals so the morals are lowered or non existent and they will take cheating, and other immorral living because why or what would make it truly wrong if we are only animals.

I've come across the same data and sadly its pretty much true. (link to site below) the "church" today has a higher divorce rate than people who say they are not christian. but compare your question to this (link to site below), almost 80% of people surveyed claim to be christian. the truth is, many of these people aren't really Christians. being a true christian isn't about going to church and being a "good person". The bible says that true Christians are not just hearers of the Word but doers of the Word. (James 1:22-25) It says further that anyone who calls themselves a christian but does not do what the bible says is a liar and the truth (God) is not in them. (1 John 2:3-5). so, you cant let those statistics be a reflection of the Christan community as a whole because those who are divorcing as "Christians" are not who they say they are.

I've never heard that one before.

But assuming it's true, it's because one that doesn't believe in god is also less likly to find marriage as fast. That isn't good or bad, but just because of how the personality is. An atheist generally won't want to even think about marriage until he/she gets much older because those people usually want to see the world first. A true christian generally wants a family early on for whatever reason. Maybe because belief in god also makes them more open to love.

If this is true, I think it's because liberal individuals like atheists and agnostics are far less judgemental enough to cause a problem.
Many Christians, not all, many, believe if you don't believe in Jesus , you will go to hell. With that in mind, you judge others who do not walk your same path, thinking they will go to hell. To me, that's sinful enough, no matter what any book or scholar or being says.
Who are you to judge? And why should anyone have to accept a life with someone who thinks only their beliefs are justifiable?

because christians especially the fundamentalists try to force a marriage to work whereas an atheist or agnostic is more laid back and is not constrained as the christian. not a true christian is a cop out lie and a poor excuse. Ive heard the not a true christian when i was a christian. it is a hurtful and abusive term to try to divide christians and i will not tolerate such ignorance

Lol, well its funny that Athiests even embrace marriage if you think about it historically. Marriage was made to be a model for God's relationship with man, but yet those who don't believe in him believe in marriage. But as far as your question goes, i think that that statistic is very out of wack, because i have heard it polled the opposite. I am sure that mine was wrong too, because how do you really keep those facts straight about devorce to begin with. Thanks,
Matt

Don't ask a question of this sort without facts to back it up! Where are they? It MAY be higher among Christians because they DO get married!
