I have a female american pit bull terrier that has just recently in the past few months started snorting. She only does it when she is exited, example, when we are playing with her or when she is eating. She doesn't snore or seem to have any problem breathing. Is this just something that she has picked up on to be more vocal?

Some dogs make a snorting sound or a popping sound as they take in scent and drag it across the gland in their mouth.
They get more scent in and can better access the scent.
It is normal and as long as she is not having breathing problems which it sounds like she is not. She is only doing it when playing and eating both times at which he would be excited she is fine and just having fun.

I have a Pittie and he snorts all the time when he is happy. I do not think it is anything you need to worry about.

Its normal for a lot of dogs to snort. Its an excited delerium and they hypervenalate or their throat spasms. My weiner dogs do it. To get them to stop, massage their throat gently.

I wouldn't worry about it, dogs to funny things. He might have heard another dog do it, or maybe did it once and liked how it felt. Alot of dogs do it when they get excited too.

Probably. Well, so long as she has no respiratory problems, then I wouldn't worry. I've noticed that Beagles and some hounds do that, too.

My dog does it every now and then. I think it's when he gets dust up his nose. My boss's dog did it the other day too.
