BenefitsCheckUp helps thousands of people every day to connect to private or government programs that help them pay for prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other needs.
Please use our short questionnaires below to find programs that can assist you or your loved ones.

Also, look in your phone book for a local office of Jewish Family Services and contact them (You needn't be Jewish, they help everyone). I am surprised that you were not able to get help from the Salvation Army. If nothing else, they always help with food, clothing and furniture, especially for single mothers.
Contact your local United Way office and explain your situation. They will find an agency that will help.
Dial "2-1-1" and they will refer you to agencies that will help you.
Most churches will also help with food, and some clothing and furniture, depending on the church.

Go to garage sales because alot of the time people are selling things REALLY cheap. Salvation army should have something...if they don't...try another one!
Also, talk to the state...maybe you can get some type of assistance since you are a single mom...more than likely you can! Food stamps, WIC and more!

Contact a local church.
I have never heard of anyone being turned away by the Salvation Army before. Perhaps you asked the wrong questions.

What about the Goodwill? I'm suprised the Salvation Army didn't do anything. What about another non profit organization in your area? Or people from work? What can I do to help?

I agree with contacting a Church near you - at the very least they can recommend a few places that can help you. They might even be able to take up a collection from their congregation.

look for all non-profit organizations such as goodwill, food banks, etc. when my house caught on fire, i found out that there are a lot of organizations that we don't know about. try churches. try going to the social service offices. anything, you have a child to provide for. let that mother instinct take over, you will know what to do.
