the planet is a collection of souls that are all connected

The planet doesn't have a soul, but the people on it do.

At least, they are supposed to.

You wouldn't know it by talking to some people, but anyone with a spiritual life has a soul. Problem is that some people know that they have a soul and they work to affirm that in their everyday lives.

Others do not.

And some people have souls, but they don't have a conscience.

In order to have a soul, you have to have a spiritual life. The planet - all the rocks and oceans and plants and animals on it do not have a soul. Only humans do. That is because God gave humans free will. Funny, but somehow that free will gets used in all the wrong places.

This is a Great Question!

If I am correct, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, effectively, teaches that it does.

Jesus taught that a man must receive the baptism of fire and water to be saved.
Hence we are baptized by water, or reborn, but we later receive our 'baptism of fire' via the witness of the Holy Ghost.

LDS members believe that the earth itself had to receive a baptism of total immersion, just like man. This came via 'The Flood".
The baptism of fire is more literal, apparently.

At the time of Christ's return to the earth, the entire earth will be quenched of the wicked by fire - thus cleansing its soul - as ALL things were originally created spiritually before they were made physically - including the earth!!

In Isaiah 24 it says that; "The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish." I guess maybe it does. God also said that he will destroy those who destroy the earth. It might or might not have a soul but either way we should not destroy it.
