I'm sure they expect unreasonable amounts, since much of that money goes into the pockets of the people who work there, often times excessive amounts. That whole 10% thing started way back when...you'd invade a town, take all their stuff and give 10% of it to the King. It was never intended to be a religious offering, but lo and behold it's ended up that way. Sure, 10%...I'll take that!

Then they'll make you feel guilty about not giving enough, saying "bad things will happen to you".

I'd say pick a church that closely matches your beliefs (if you're into all that) and should you choose to give them any money, give what you can afford, not what they're telling you to give them.

LMAO

You don't join a church because of "rates."

Tithing or Offering is what you can give. What do you believe that God and the church is worth in your life?

Based on your question, I would say not much. You need a little more faith.

A tithe is 10%, an offering should be optional/unlimited.

The Bible says that you tithe should be 1 tenth of your increase or 10% of your increase. Offering is not specific in the Bible it is left up to you to give the amount you want.

You shouldn't join a church based on tithing or offering.
I was raised to believe a person should give 10% of his/her wages, or possessions to the Glory of God. It is supposed to be our way of thanking God for all he gives us. Some people think it should only be cash, etc. But if you give of your self ( time or labor or stewardship to the church ), it is also considered giving back to God for what he gave you.

THE BIBLE SAYS 10%. IN REALITY, TITHES AND OFFERINGS IS NOT JUST MONETARY. IT IS ALSO SERVITUDE, HELPING OTHERS, VOLUNTEERING IN CHURCH, HELPING WIDOWS AND ELDERLY...
IN OLD TESTAMENT TIMES, JEWS ACTUALLY TITHED ABOUT 25%.
IT IS NOT ABOUT RATES, IT IS ABOUT WHAT GOD HAS ORDERED US TO DO SO THE WORK CAN GO ON. TITHING SUPPORTS FOOD BANKS, MONEY FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T PAY BILLS DUE TO LEGITIMATE REASONS SUCH AS SICK OR OUT OF WORK. IT GOES TO MISSIONS..AND YES SALARIES AND BILLS LIKE ELECTRICITY AND PHONE...PRAISE GOD HE USES THE MONEY WISELY IN MY CHURCH
