No. Beer will not increase your supply. However, some lactation counselors recommend a glass of wine, not because it increases your supply, but b/c it relaxes you causes let down. I pumped for 4 months. The best thing is to pump really often. Every two hours and pump until you are completely empty. If you have a double pump, pump both sides at the same time. Your body responds to the amount drained and trains itself to make what it thinks the baby needs, so if you pump until completely empty your body will know it's not enough, if not your body thinks it is making too much. And if you don't pump often enough, your body thinks the baby isn't eating that often and slows production down. Think supply and demand, the natural version. There is a tea you can buy, I'm not sure what it is called, but it's supposed to relax you and stimulate let down. I pumped every two hrs and pretty soon I was getting extra and freezing it. Good luck. The shields are a good idea to try also, if they work then you won't have to worry about pumping.

Drinking beer used to be recommended to nursing mothers to help them relax and increase their milk supply. Research studies have shown otherwise, however. In studies comparing alcoholic vs. non-alcoholic beer, babies whose mothers drank the alcoholic beer nursed more often but actually drank less milk.
There is also the danger of passing the alcohol to the baby in the milk. Another study showed that the children of mothers who had two or more drinks per day scored slightly lower on motor development at one year than the norm. Another danger of drinking alcoholic beverages is that it can impair the mother's ability to take care of her child.
Various cultures have declared that various foods have the ability to stimulate milk production and are called galactagogues. There is no real evidence that any of them actually work. You are far better off eating a well-balanced diet of nutritious foods.
Remember that the real key to milk supply is how much milk is removed. The more your baby removes from your breast, the more they respond by making more milk.
I hope this helps!

You should NOT be drinking alcohol while breastfeeding... Sorry to say, but your mother is a lunatic!
You body adjusts the amount of milk its producing by the amount that your baby is taking. More feeds = more milk.
Alcohol is passed through breastmilk to your nursing baby, so abstain completely.

ok...beer does help breastfeeding because of the brewer's yeast in it. It helps stimmulate the milk production. But only one. If you want to drink while feeding then pump and then go out. it takes about 2-3 hrs per drink to leave your system. If you go out and get hammered just pump off the first feeding of the next day.

Beer like Guinness is good for pregnant and breastfeeding women as it contains a lot of Iron and other stuff beneficial to the baby. It used to be encouraged during the war when iron levels were low. But please, don't get too tipsy, I don't think that'll help!

certain proteins in the beer. Must be moderate but you can also get the same benefit from a non-alcoholic brand.
