speak to a vet. It may have a nutrient deficiency. If it was eating its own cr*p it could have a behaviour prob, but no.Get it to the vets. Alot of dogs do this. You could try a more expensive nutrient rich dog food designed for working breeds.

"There are many theories as to why dogs eat poop. Some believe that dogs may have a dietary deficiency which they're compensating for by eating feces. Though there are some medical disorders that can lead to this, including starvation, disorders of the pancreas or intestine, and severe parasitic infestations which lead to serious malnutrition, these are typically rare. So, generally speaking, eating poop is not a sign that a dog is missing something in his diet. "

Dogs like to eat poop. That's really all there is to it. People find it disgusting, dogs find it delightful. Still most people want it to stop. With that in mind I put together a short page full of links to other people's ideas about the causes of poop eating (more elegantly called "Coprophagia") and ideas on how to stop it. I didn't really use much editorial discretion on the subject because I haven't really studied it enough to have a strong opinion. Thus different sites disagree. Oh well.

Here are some links on the subject of eating feces:

Apparently it's a natural behavior because, in the wild they eat raw meat which is actually rather hard to digest and passes through the system inefficiently. They get round this by recyling the "waste".

Despite what many breeders say, cooked food is easier to digest and is better for the dog, first time round.

This is not uncommon of dogs. However, you should be careful of who's poo he's eating. Parvo is a deadly disease that dogs can get by sniffing or consuming other dog's feces. Make sure your hungry dog has been vaccinated.

You should try Deter. Its a pill that stops dogs from doing that. We use it in our kennels and it works really well. Also, make sure y our dog's diet is very healthy.
